Happy and exhausted hellos from Missouri. I’m typing this with my eyes half shut, haha. This week pretty much kicked my butt, but I’m grateful that I survived the week and that the Lord gave me strength. Coffee helped too! (wink-wink)
Miscellany:
Let’s start with a few Rowe updates…
1. Steve had his surgery on Tuesday and was discharged on Thursday afternoon. Hallelujah. The surgery went well and he’s on the road to recovery.
On a side note, based on our experience at the hospital — there is a lot of newbie nurses. From the mandated COVID shot to those who left the medical field from burnout after the peak of the pandemic, there is a shortage of staff and a lot of the staff is new and young.
Don’t get me wrong, they were all wonderful to work with, but it was a little unnerving when they announced it was the first time they did this or that. Gulp. Especially when Steve was in the trauma unit. Double gulp.
Here’s my cutie patootie. You’d never know he had major surgery, right? We were waiting for the wheelchair for discharge.
3. This past week was the first time in THIRTEEN years I’ve ever had to sleep at home alone (no Steve or fur babies). The silence was unbearable, but I’m proud of myself for not caving and staying with friends or family.
However, I couldn’t be happier to have Steve home. I’ll gladly be his nurse until he’s feeling up to his normal tasks again, especially if it meant that we didn’t have to sit in that hospital room another day.
4. Remember that MRI I mentioned having last Saturday? Well, on Monday morning I got the results. I have a bulging disc in my lower back. I may have had a good cry when I read the test results. When it rains, it pours.
I’m hoping to get a shot or something soon because the pain is no joke.
5. Steve and I are celebrating our THIRTEENTH wedding anniversary today (at home, in front of the TV since he’s still recovering from surgery). We’re celebrating in spirit. Haha. However, we were together 3 years prior to our wedding, so fifteen years. And I truly love him more every single day.
And now on to more exciting things…
6. I’m a big fan of Grove Collaborative and have been using Mrs. Meyers Lavender foam soaps at our bathroom sinks for years. Well, recently I got to use the Raw Sugar Hand Soap in Watermelon and Mint — and I fell in love. Holy moly does that stuff smell good. Yes, I bought a couple of bottles. Target has/had them for Buy One, Get One for 50% off.
I kiddingly told Steve that I wanted to eat my hands. Sounds sick, right? But it was a joke. Haha. It does smell pretty yummy though (just saying).
7. I picked up a bottle of the OPI Nail Envy in Bubble Bath this past week. When I don’t have time to do a manicure but want to keep my nails strong with a hint of color — this works perfectly. I love it. ❤️
8. I heard this song on the radio this week — The Thanksgiving Song by Ben Rector. Oh my gosh, I loved it. It’s beautiful and sentimental. Here are a few of the lyrics:
So fill your plate and fill your drink
And fill this house with family
The kind of love that all these years can’t wash away
‘Cause the older that I get
I see that life is short and bittersweet
Thank God for this Thanksgiving Day
