A little over a week ago I shared some Tips for Planning a Wine Party. Well, the party was held and we enjoyed some good food, good wine and good company! Boom. The Sonoma Cutrer wine party was a huge success! I even tried my hand at a couple of new recipes and the Mushroom Phyllo Bundles, in particular, were a H-I-T.
Tell me those don’t look delicious?!?! I’ll be sure to share the recipe in a bit, but I wanted you to see a few photos of the par-tay first. I hope you don’t mind {wink}.
The wines I served included: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
In addition to the delicious wine, there was a lovely spread of food. I decided to serve the Mushroom Phyllo Bites, Crab Meat Hors D’oeuvres, Roasted Red Pepper with Feta Dip, cheese, crackers, pita chips, pistachios, greek olives, sesame breadsticks, and grapes! It was an eclectic grouping of food to ensure that it appealed to all the different palates. I felt everything provided a real explosion of flavor!
After editing and posting all of these pictures, I’m wishing I had some leftovers. It’s quite a spread, right? I loved using all the wood and natural elements. Notice I ended up using the birch holders for food labels. Love them! You can see what I was deciding between in Tips for Planning a Wine Partypost if you’d like.
Cheese and crackers are always a perfect pairing with wine. I chose the following cheese: Gouda, Sharp Cheddar and Vermont White Cheddar.
I always enjoy seeing who favors what wines. My husband is a huge red wine lover, so I knew that he would be helping himself to a glass of the Pinot Noir {smile}. However, the white wines stole the show. I loved the Sauvignon Blanc. I’ve always preferred white wines and it seemed that a few of the gals in attendance preferred the whites too.
It was a lovely evening. I couldn’t be happier that I kept it fairly simple too. Before I go, as promised, I have the Mushroom Phyllo Bundles recipe for you. Enjoy!
Mushroom Phyllo Bundles
Ingredients
- 1 Roll Phyllo Dough
- 1 stick Unsalted Butter
- 4 cups Chopped Mushrooms
- 4 garlic cloves minced
- ¼ cup Dry White Wine
- Grated Parmesan Cheese for sprinkling
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Melt ½ stick butter in a bowl, set aside.
- Melt ½ stick butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and mushrooms and cook for 1 minute. Pour in wine, mix well, and cook until all liquid is cooked off. Turn off heat and set aside.
- Unroll phyllo dough. Cut stack in half. Working quickly, place 1 sheet of phyllo dough onto a flat surface and brush lightly with melted butter. Put another sheet of phyllo dough on top and brush with butter. Repeat this until you have 3-4 sheets of phyllo. Do not brush the top top layer of phyllo dough with butter.
- Cut the buttered stack into four equal parts (squares). Sprinkle grated parmesan cheese in the middle of each square and place approximately 1 teaspoon of mushroom mixture on top of cheese. Optional: Sprinkle additional parmesan cheese onto mushroom mixture.
- Gather each square into a neat little bundle, pinching the neck so that it remains closed when baking. Place bundles on a parchment-lined cookie sheet, pressing lightly so that they're flat on the bottom.
- Back at 375 degrees for 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve immediately.

What a spread indeed! I host parties and do small catering and it’s always good to have another hors d’oeuvre ideas. However even though it says serve immediately, got any tips for keeping these bundles warm and crisp? Could you slide on eating them room temperature?
Kelly Rowe says
Hi Leilani! Thanks for stopping by. These do well at room temperature. They were still out for probably close to an hour and did fine. The key is to try to time it so that they are pulled out right before a party. Enjoy the rest of your evening. xo.
