Ah, winter! Cozy sweaters, hot cocoa, and holiday magic are all part of the season’s charm. But let’s be honest—while winter brings joy (to some), it can also wreak havoc on our skin. Harsh winds, cold air, and indoor heating can leave your skin dry and flaky and cause it to need some serious TLC. So, how can you keep that radiant glow all season long? I’ve got you covered with these tips for winter skin care. I’ll also be sharing some of the powerhouse products I use daily.

Whether you’re a skincare newbie or a seasoned pro, these Winter Skin Care Tips will help you achieve soft, hydrated, and healthy skin using products from two beloved brands* I’ve used now for a couple of years. Some were products I wanted to try for my skin type, and others were recommended by my dermatologist.

Ready to glow? Let’s dive in.

Why Winter Skin Care Is Different

Before we jump into product recommendations, let’s talk about why winter skincare requires a little extra love. In colder months, humidity levels drop, and the air becomes dry. Your skin naturally loses moisture, leading to that dreaded tight, itchy feeling. Add indoor heating to the mix, and it’s a recipe for dehydrated, irritated skin.

The solution? Follow these Winter Skin Care Tips to focus on hydration, protection, and barrier repair. I’ll share a few of my favorites, but be sure to research and use the most beneficial products for your skin.

Meet the Brands: Pomifera and CeraVe

The products that I use daily are from Pomifera and Cerave. Pomifera is known for its plant-based, minimal-ingredient products that focus on nourishing the skin with potent botanicals. Their signature ingredient is Pomifera Oil™, derived from the Osage orange fruit. It’s packed with antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and anti-inflammatory properties.

On the other hand, CeraVe is a dermatologist-favorite brand that focuses on restoring the skin’s natural barrier with essential ceramides and hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid. Their products are gentle, fragrance-free, and perfect for sensitive skin, which I have.

These brands offer a fantastic balance of natural and science-backed skincare solutions to tackle winter woes.

Step 1: Cleanse Gently (But Effectively!)

Switching to a gentle cleanser that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils is vital during winter. I use both of these, but CeraVe is less expensive. Here’s what I recommend:

  • Pomifera Balancing Facial Cleanser: This gentle cleanser removes dirt and makeup without over-drying your skin. It contains nourishing ingredients like Pomifera oil and aloe vera to soothe and hydrate.
  • CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser: A cult favorite for a reason! This cleanser is packed with ceramides and hyaluronic acid to cleanse while locking in moisture. It’s ideal for dry or sensitive skin.

Pro Tip: Wash your face with lukewarm water—hot water can strip your skin of essential moisture.

Step 2: Hydrate that Winter Skin

Winter skin is thirsty! Unlike moisturizers, serums are packed with smaller molecules that penetrate more effectively, targeting specific concerns like fine lines, dark spots, and dehydration. They’re essential for boosting your routine, enhancing hydration, brightening the complexion, and improving skin texture for long-term, noticeable results. Think of serums as your skincare powerhouses — a little goes a long way for healthier, glowing skin!

After cleansing, it’s essential to replenish your skin’s moisture with hydrating products. I use a few serums, which include the following:

  • Pomifera Rose Anti-Aging Serum: This powerhouse serum is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids to help restore hydration and reduce the appearance of fine lines. If I were only to recommend one, this is it. This oil is my ride-or-die for hydration, amongst all the other benefits.
  • The Power of Three: This collection is your ultimate skincare trifecta! Designed to target multiple skin concerns with the power of natural botanicals, this set includes three potent serums that work harmoniously to nourish, restore, and protect your skin. Infused with antioxidant-rich Pomifera Oil, these lightweight, fast-absorbing formulas help improve texture, boost hydration, and combat environmental stressors. Perfect for anyone looking to achieve a radiant, healthy glow with a simple, effective skincare routine.

Pro Tip: Apply your serum to damp skin to lock in extra hydration.

Step 3: Lock It In with a Moisturizer + SPF

Now that your skin is hydrated, it’s time to lock it all in with a good moisturizer, and don’t forget the SPF.

Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can skip sunscreen. UV rays are still present, and snow can reflect them, increasing your exposure. I like to get both the moisturizer and SPF in at one time, so I use:

  • CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 30: This multitasking moisturizer provides hydration and sun protection in one step.
  • Celesty BB Cream: Light, easy-to-apply formula smooths and evens skin tone provides hydration, and conceals the appearance of skin imperfections. Light, easy-to-apply formula smooths and evens skin tone. It also provides hydration and conceals the appearance of skin imperfections. Contains a chemically based SPF.
  • CeraVe Skin Renewing Face Night Cream with Peptide Complex & Hyaluronic Acid: This lightweight, intensely hydrating night cream is formulated to revitalize and restore tired skin. It works to soften the complexion, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance the skin’s elasticity for a smoother, more refreshed look by morning.

Pro Tip #1: Don’t forget your neck and hands—they need hydration too!
Pro Tip #2: Apply SPF even on cloudy days. It’s a non-negotiable step! Trust me.

Step 4: Treat Yourself to a Weekly Mask

Give your skin extra love with a hydrating mask once or twice weekly. I have used all three of these masks and liked them all. The peel-off mask hurt a little, but I can’t remember the last time I did a peel-off mask. Ha. Maybe high school? Nevertheless, my face felt so good after all of them.

  • YOUTH® Purifying Clay Mask: This mask detoxifies and nourishes the skin with Pomifera oil and kaolin clay. It’s perfect for giving your skin a reset.
  • Charcoal Face Mask: Achieve a salon-quality cleanse with our easy-to-use peel-off mask, which targets blackheads and clogged pores. Apply the mask, let it dry, peel away, and follow up with your favorite moisturizer for a smooth, refreshed complexion. My mind was blown to find NO blackheads on my nose.
  • Pumpkin Enzyme Mask: This 4-in-1 self-warming pumpkin mask reduces the appearance of large pores, hydrates, cleanses, and provides gentle exfoliation. I’m obsessed with this mask.

Pro Tip: Use masks in the evening for a calming self-care ritual.

Step 5: Don’t Forget the Lips this Winter

Winter’s chilly air and low humidity can strip moisture from your lips, leaving them dry, cracked, and vulnerable to irritation. Unlike the rest of your skin, lips lack oil glands, making them more prone to dehydration.

So, chapped lips are a common winter woe; be sure to keep them hydrated. I use all of these on rotation at night before bed.

  • Pomifera Happy Salve: Enriched with the coveted Pomifera Oil™, providing deep nourishment to the lips. Not only is Happy Salve soothing and moisturizing, but it also protects the lips by creating a protective barrier. Unlike a balm, salves can seep below the skin’s surface to restore. The Orange Almond is my fave!
  • Renew Lip Serum: Formulated with a laboratory-tested, age-defying blend of botanical oils, extracts, and a natural peptide to help support healthy collagen. Plumps, hydrates, and softens for fuller, more youthful-looking lips.
  • DRMTLGY C Balm: A powerful antioxidant lip treatment infused with supercharged Vitamin C, it protects against environmental stressors while delivering deep hydration to soothe dry, chapped lips.

Pro Tip: Apply lip balm before bed to wake with soft, hydrated lips.

Step 6: Body Care Matters Too

It’s not just your face that needs extra care in winter—your body does too! Harsh weather and indoor heating can strip your skin of moisture, leaving it dry, itchy, and prone to irritation. Keeping your skin moisturized with rich body creams and hydrating oils helps lock in hydration, strengthen your skin barrier, and prevent dryness. Here are the two products I use:

  • Pomifera Silk Body Milk: This 1/2 lotion + 1/2 body oil formula enhances skin radiance, provides anti-aging benefits, is anti-oxidant rich, and deeply moisturizing.
  • CeraVe Moisturizing Cream: Use this cream all over your body for deep hydration. It’s especially great for dry areas, like elbows and knees.

Pro Tip: Apply body lotion right after showering to lock in moisture.

Bonus Winter Skin Care Tips:

Here are a few extra Winter Skin Care Tips to keep your skin happy all season long:

  1. Use a humidifier: Indoor heating can dry out the air. A humidifier adds moisture to the air, helping your skin stay hydrated.
  2. Drink plenty of water: Hydration starts from within, so ensure you drink enough water throughout the day.
  3. Avoid harsh scrubs: Exfoliation is essential, but go easy in the winter. Opt for gentle exfoliants to avoid irritating your skin.
  4. Wear gloves: Protect your hands from the cold to prevent dryness and cracking.
  5. Don’t forget about your feet and heels! Give them a little love, too.
