I’ve been on a roll with ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape (no pun intended)!  Recently I shared my Stenciled Table Runner and an Aztec Stenciled Step Stool that was a perfect addition to my work room.  I’m super excited about todays project.  DIY Wrapping Paper.  I love kraft paper.  I think it’s just so incredibly versatile.  One Christmas I wrapped all my gifts in kraft paper, adding the pop of color with embellishments! You can see that here: get your {kraft} on.  How about customizing that kraft paper by stenciling it?  Yes, please!

DIY Wrapping Paper with ScotchBlue Painter's Tape at livelaughrowe.com

Supplies:
Roll of Kraft Paper
Scissors
Acrylic Paint (colors of choice)
Cosmetic Sponges
ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape

Keep in mind that this is a project you can wing… DIY wrapping paper means just that.  So, have fun creating stripes, patterns, squares, letters or whatever your heart desires using the painter’s tape.  There may be some imperfections, but that’s a-okay!  Are you ready to get started?  Let’s do it!

Getting Started with ScotchBlue Painter's Tape projectAs you may or may not have already figured out — the secret weapon in our project is ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape.  So, once you have your piece of kraft paper cut (based on the size of your gift box), it’s time to do some creating!

DIY Wrapping Paper using ScotchBlue painters tape with livelaughrowe.com

Step One:  Design

Decide on what design  — or you can simply wing it.  I’m a wing it kinda girl.  I rarely measure, but I think the imperfections give it a little extra homemade TLC.  I decided to keep this one rather simple with just a few stripes.

Step Two and Three:  Painting

Decide on your colors.  For this one, with Christmas just around the corner {shhh.  you didn’t hear that from me}, I thought I would go with some red and green.

Paint the entire design using the cosmetic sponges.  I attempted using a sponge brush, but it didn’t apply the paint as nicely as the cosmetic sponges did.

Step Four:  Tape Removal

Carefully remove the ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape.  I used a thinner kraft paper (purchased at the dollar store), so I had to slowly remove the tap to ensure it didn’t rip.  The paper got a little fuzzy, but it’s nothing noticeable — again, I think it added a little character.

You’re done!  Now to wrap the package.

ScotchBlue Painter's Tape Project. DIY Wrapping Paper with livelaughrowe.comI love the natural, rustic feel that this paper has!  I finished it off with some twine and one of my printable Christmas gift tags.  Friends, I didn’t stop there… here’s couple more packages I whipped up.

Here I used my love for the tribal, aztec design and painted it right onto a kraft box I picked up at Micheal’s.

Using ScotchBlue painters tape to stencil tribal pattern onto kraft box with Live Laugh RoweAnd a little navy blue made this package perfect.  I had the men in mind for this one and funny enough — this was the one my husband liked the most.  Score!

Using ScotchBlue painters tape to stencil patterns onto kraft paper with livelaughrowe.comAnd one last pick of the three together!  I had a blast with this and I hope you’re feeling inspired to create some of your own personalized wrapping paper!  So many possibilities.

Create your own wrapping paper with painter's tape and kraft paper. Tutorial at livelaughrowe.comWhat do you think??  Easy!  Fun! Handmade!  I love it!!

I absolutely LOVE this idea! And the tape is gentle enough so it doesn’t rip the paper when you take it off? I’m seriously going to have to try this for Christmas!

Love the wrapping paper. The stripes give it a great punch. Looks pretty simple, pretty quick also, great post.
When oldest son’s 1st baby born I personalized kraft paper by decorating it with his name, baby images, his birth, things like that. I also personalized his onesies. I think dil liked it also. She told me she’d saved the paper and the onesies for his first baby, a while for that one yet. Hope we live to see that as he’s going to college for a specialized science degree so we might be waiting a long time. Maybe that’ll be enuf inspiration to keep us around for longer time.
When I give gifts I usually use kraft paper that I’ve personalized for the person, what they do, what the occasion is, things like that. Making the stripes with the tape will be a great new technique. Happy week Kelly
