Where do you find your inspiration? I find mine in soooo many places… TV, mailers, surroundings, stores, billboards, quotes, etc. I’m excited to say that today’s project was inspired by an older Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazine! I tucked the idea away and today I’m sharing these Painted Drop Cloth Soap Wraps. It went hand in hand with my love for things that have that vintage feel. I love-love-love how they turned out and I hope you do too.
Supplies:
Paint
Soap
Canvas Drop Cloth
Jute Twine or Cotton Twine
Buttons
Sponge Brush, optional
Paper Doily, optional
Painters Tape, optional
I used paints we had hanging out in the garage. You can make some homemade soaps or I picked up a few bars at my local Dollar General. You can’t beat that {wink}. Let’s get started, shall we?
Step One: Cut your drop cloth into strips. My strips measured 2-1/2″ x 8-9″
Step Two: Create your dye. Mix 1-2 tablespoons of paint with a 16 oz. of water in a small container. Stir well.
Step Three: Submerge the drop cloth strips into the paint mixture. Remove the strip and lay flat to dry. Do not wring the drop cloth out. After the strips are dry, iron.
The paint colors I chose were from samples we had purchased when trying to decide on some paints for the house. We bought new construction home, so LOTS of painting had to be done {giggle}. The colors were:
Valspar: Rustic Oak
Valspar: Bungalow Gold
Olympic: Mesa Verde
You could stop here and call it good. However, you could also add a little extra fun to your soap wraps too. Grab some acrylic paint, a sponge Brush, a paper doily and/or painters tape. Let’s do a little stenciling.
On one I chose to paint a light colored stripe using painters tape for the stenciling.
On another I used a paper doily as the stencil.
The last strip of cloth, I left as a solid. Now you’ll wrap the strip of painted drop cloth around the soap and tie with twine, using a buttons as an accessory. That’s it! Super easy. I think these would make great gifts, stocking stuffers, favors and the list goes on. So many fabulous uses! The possibilities are endless! Another twist to this fabulous tutorial is that you could make some homemade soap for an even more personal touch.
That’s it! Feeling inspired?
Happy Crafting!
