Hopefully the cold winter has come and gone, so now it’s time to start pulling out those Spring Cleaning Tips to give your house a thorough cleaning!
Are you a fan of dust and pollen? Yeah, me either. Unfortunately, we all have to live amongst allergens, mold, dust mites and God only knows what else. Sometimes I don’t even want to think about it. {giggle} In the Spring, we tend to have even more pollen and as we open up our homes, we allow more of the outdoor contaminants in.
Here are FIVE practical and simple Spring Cleaning Tips with you that we should be doing each Spring, with the intention of having healthier indoor air quality. I confess, I don’t always do them {face palm}. I get an A for effort though, right? Ha.
Five Spring Cleaning Tips
One: Clean Windows Inside and Out
I remember my parents teaming up to do this together every single spring. I probably thought nothing of it at the time, but I now see why they did it. The dirt/dust/pollen that builds up in the window panes is mind boggling. If you have screens, remove them and hose them down as well.
Two: Clean Floors (Hardwood, Laminate and/or Wood)
Clean those floors! If you have flooring that you can us a steam cleaner on, this is the best way to ensure that you are getting to the dirt and effectively breaking it up for removal, especially if you have tile and grouting. Everyone has a different preference on cleaning hard wood floors. I clean mine on my hands and knees. (Yes! Back breaking work). Regardless of the flooring you have, ensure you give them all a thorough cleaning.
Three: Vacuum and Clean Carpets
Vacuum your carpets and clean those rugs. Whether you hire the professionals, rent or own your Rug Doctor — nows the time to clean them. Technically, we should be cleaning our rugs twice a year, but most of us don’t. So, why not do it as a part of your Spring Cleaning to ensure it’s getting done at least once a year?
Four: Wash Blinds and Curtains
If you have blinds, be sure to wash them down. The use of duster (swiffer or feather) throughout the year keeps the dust to minimum, but giving them a thorough washing at least once a year keeps them looking newer and I don’t know about you, but I’d like to extend the life of my blinds.
Don’t forget about the curtains. Pull all of your curtains down and wash or dry clean them. Occasionally I take a closer look at some of our curtains and I cringe. We live in new construction and the dust is truly overwhelming. Sometimes I think that I we need to some spring cleaning twice a year!
Five: Clean high and low
What goes up, must come down, right? LOL. Dust that collects up high will most likely make its way back down. Sometimes I dread turning on the ceiling fans if they haven’t been cleaned. I imagine a dust storm, which is completely ridiculous… but I do. Be sure to clean the top of your cupboards, ceiling fans and door frames. You also don’t want to forget your vent covers!
You’ll also want to clean the low places — especially if you have toddlers and/or pets. Clean under all of your major appliances in your kitchen and laundry room and be sure to wash all of your base boards down.
After hours of blood, sweat and tears {giggle}, your Spring Cleaning is done! Your house sparkles and you can breathe a little easier knowing all of your hard word is not in vain.
Now that you’ve created a healthier indoor air quality by applying these basic spring cleaning tips, you might consider purchasing an air purifier to maintain the healthier air. There are a large variety of air purifiers available, so be sure to investigate which one might be the best fit for you.

Gross, I hate cleaning! But somebody’s gotta do it…and unfortunately it’s me. Another way I keep my air nice and fresh is green plants, they recycle the air and look lovely. Be careful with flowering plants if you have allergies!

This is definitely a list to remember…the Husband and I never were affected much by allergens, so we’ve been bad about getting all the pollen out. Lo and behold, the three year old was just diagnosed with allergies after waking up one morning so affected her eye was crusted over. I guess it’s time to break out all the cleaning supplies!
