Recently shared a yummy Roasted Pumpkin Spiced Almonds recipe — a perfect snack or recipe to whip up for gift giving! With the holidays right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about gifts {gulp}. If you’re anything like me, it’s nice to make some handmade and/or homemade gifts. I love that personal touch. Today I have a super easy (and inexpensive) homemade Savory Herb Rub to share with all of you — and fabulous printable labels to use as well!
This will take 10 minutes to make — and with the labels already created, you’ll be set for gift giving in less than 30 minutes! How perfect is that? Let’s get started on whipping this together.
Homemade Savory Herb Rub
Ingredients
- 1-1/3 cups kosher salt or coarse sea salt
- 2/3 cup dried parsley .4 oz bottle
- 1/3 cup dried thyme
- 1/4 cup dried rosemary crushed
- 1/4 cup dried shredded lemon peel
- 1/4 cup coarse ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, stir togethers salt, parsley, thyme, rosemary, lemon peel, pepper, garlic powder and onion. Divide mixture among 1/2 cup glass jars or gift tines, stirring occasionally as you spoon.
- Cover and label jars or tins and add hang tags with directions for use.
- Instructions for use as a rub: Lightly brush pork, chicken, lamb or fish with olive oil. Tub the herb mixture evenly over all sides of meat, poultry or fish. Let stand for 15 minutes. Grill or Roast.
This batch will make five 1/2 cup mixtures, with an extra 1/4 cup. The cost of herbs will vary depending on the brand and size you buy. Mine costed me less than $20. My jars were $1.69 each. That’s five gifts for under $30 and the bonus is that it’s HOMEMADE!
Supplies for packaging: Labels (kraft or color of preference), Kraft Cardstock (or color of choice), 4 oz. Glass Jars (mine are from Penzeys), String, 1/8″ Hole Punch, and Scissors or Paper Cutter.
For the labels, I used OL894BK in Brown Kraft from OnlineLabels.com; however, you could easily print them on full sheet of kraft or white labels and cut them to size.
Print rub instructions hang tags onto cardstock, as you can see I used brown kraft cardstock. Cut it out, fold over and punch a hole, then attach.

What a fabulous gift idea! Thank you for the recipe and precious label. Is there a chance you could design a sheet of blank/editable labels so that we could enter our own spice names? I would LOVE to make my ENTIRE spice drawer with these jars and labels!
Kelly Rowe says
Hi Tracy! Thanks so much for stopping by and loving on this gift idea 🙂 Unfortunately, I don’t have the program that would allow me to create a blank/editable labels. If you’re interested, for a small fee I could gladly type up the labels you need and e-mail them to you. Let me know. Thanks again! Hugs.
