I have quite a few Italian friends back in New Jersey (where my parents live) that make their own homemade pasta sauce.  Buying it in the store is unthinkable, an unpardonable sin for them {hee-hee}.  I’ve always wanted to try my hand at making some and my mom finally passed along one of their recipes to me; however, it’s more or less adding the ingredients to your taste.  I guess you could think of it as a customizable homemade pasta sauce recipe.  Thank you, Gail {hugs}!  Today I’m going to share my version of the sauce with you!

homemade pasta sauce

This was the first time I ever made my own pasta sauce and I usually let my husband give me the thumbs up or thumbs down in regards to whether a recipe is a go or not… and, quite frankly,  I was a nervous wreck.  I was sooo excited when he {loved} it!   This is a sweet and savory sauce, absolutely delicious.  I’m not sure that there’s any turning back now, unless I’m in a crunch for time.   I also loved that I was able to freeze what I wasn’t going to use right away — perfection!  I hope you enjoy this recipe as much we did.

This looks amazing. My mom has a friend from the Northeast that shared her homemade sauce recipe. It’s so good and she puts ziti in it.

Love making my own pasta sauces. You know exactly what is (and isn’t!) in it that way. No preservatives!

I’m like your friends, I’ve always made my own and don’t even order spaghetti in a restaurant because it’s never as good as mine. lol (braggart) I always make a meat sauce since that is how my husband loves it. And it’s so easy to make, when it tastes this good, why buy it? I always make extra to freeze too.

My mom made her own gravy all the time – not sure why I don’t – but look like I need to give this a try Kelly!
