I am soooo excited about today’s tutorial. This one goes waaay back. A few years ago my mom and I were in a little handmade shop in Maplewood (here in St. Louis). I saw these earrings that looked lacy, like a doily — that had been starched. My mom said they were probably made using a fabric stiffener. I remembered thinking, what is that? Hee-hee. I finally remembered to get the supplies and give them a try. A fun and easy doily craft — DIY Boho Earrings. I absolutely {love} them!
Let’s grab a few supplies, shall we? All of my supplies are from Consumer Crafts Of course they can also be purchased on Amazon.com or your at your local craft store.
Supplies: Doilies, Fabric Stiffener, Scissors, Hook Earrings, Bag or Bowl for Fabric Stiffener and Round Nosed Pliers.
First things first, you’ll want to cut your desired shape from the doily. There are so many different doilies in all shapes and sizes, allowing for varied designs. That’s what makes these so fun!
I used an ivory colored doily (pictured above) for demonstration. You’ll then want to follow the instructions on the Fabric Stiffener to ensure that you thoroughly coat your earring with the stiffener. I chose to use a plastic bag. Having a pair of disposable gloves would be helpful, but they’re not necessary. Once your earring is completely coated, place on wax paper for re-shaping and drying. Turn it over every so often, until completely dry and stiff.
Once the earring shape is completely dry, you’ll attach the hook earrings with your round nosed pliers to the top of your earring and you’re done! You could place a jump ring on the doily earring and then attach the hook earring if you’d like. I didn’t find the extra step necessary.
Pictured are two different styles cut from two different doilies! Fabulous, right? They’re perfectly boho!
You can also see me wearing a pair of these in this What I Wore Wednesday post. I hope you love these DIY Boho Earrings as much as I do. Happy Crafting, sweet friends!! Hugs.

Oh Kelly, love these, so easy, so pretty. I hate to cut up my vintage doilies so will be looking at $tree to see if they have any, sure hope so. Maybe thrift stores. Great project, inexpensive, easy. Hope our 2 teenage g/d’s love them. Never know what teenage girls will like.
Happen to have some stiffener I’ve had for long time so will use that. Glad you shared.

I have been collecting vintage trims for years… this is a great idea for those pieces that have damage on one part and a section that is still in good condition! So clever!

Kelly….LOVE this! Such a great idea and wow, I have so many of these vintage doilies that belong my grandmother! She was a jewelry fanatic, so I think she would approve of my cutting up a couple. Thanks so much for sharing this great project – pinning and sharing on FB today!

Looks great.. Classy output. The earrings can be flashed just about anywhere to impress others 😉
Just one question, Is it okay if we use something else than the Fabric stiffner? I got a skin allergy from it when I was very little.. Gosh a lil embarassing1 But is there a substitute?
Love

These are adorable. I have some “wounded” doilies that could be upcycled into these. Maybe even a light coat of glitter Modge Podge for evening?!?
