Happy Wednesday! We’ve officially made it half way through the week… yahoo! Better yet, my husband was visiting his family in Calgary for a long weekend — and he’s finally home, after being stuck in Denver for an extra night (courtesy of United Airlines). I despise being home alone — it’s not my bag, baby {hee-hee}. So, all things are good in the world again! I love my hubby and I love him even more when he’s home with me {smile}. Alrighty, enough sappy jibber jabber! Let’s take a look at my recent (and super inexpensive) DIY Window Treatment!
Do those dish towels curtains look familiar?
Yup, those are the infamous .79¢ Tekla Dish Towels from IKEA.
I’ve had a stack of these dish towels for over a year. While at Blissdom last year I saw them and thought: Window Treatment for the Kitchen. Then they sat, and sat — and sat some more! I’m still not sure why I waited so long to get this done. However, I finally decided to put them to use and it took all of 15-20 minutes too.
Supplies for DIY Window Treatment:
IKEA Dish Towels (or towels of choice)
Drapery Clips
Single Curtain Rods
I used four towels and three sets of drape clips.
After a little ironing and hanging — voila!
I love how they brightened up the corner too!
You don’t want to see the horrors that were there. {giggle}
Approximated Costs:
Dish Towels (IKEA) .79¢ x 4 =$3.00
Drapery Clips (Walmart) $7.00 x 3 = $21.00
Single Curtain Rods (Walmart) x 2 = $6.00
Window Treatments for $30.
Not too shabby, right?
I couldn’t be happier! One suggestion that I would make is to get more than you need — some of them may not line up perfectly. Since I don’t live near an IKEA, I had bought quite a few. You could always line them up in the store too {smile}. Having extras works for me, I love using these towels as props too. Tell me, what DIY projects are you up to?
Care to stay in the loop? I’d love to have you!

Very nice Kelly! I know how you feel about being home alone. I have an illness that prevents me from holding a job outside the home so I am home alone all day everyday while my hubby is at work. Bummer! Love your blog posts though, you have many great ideas!
Kelly Rowe says
Thanks for the kind words Jamie! Appreciate you stopping by to check out my posts. π It can be tough to be home alone all day, but it’s nice to know that at the end of the day we have our husbands to keep us company. HUGS.

love, love, love the idea. with my rescues, I end up with a lot fur so laundering these would be a breeze. changing the color would also be simple by tea-dying them in the laundry and for holidays – you could use additional towels in other colors. I’m always excited to find terrific ideas and this is one I’ll definitely try. Thanks!
Kelly Rowe says
Thanks so much Rayma! Sounds like this idea would be wonderful for you and your tea dying sounds great! Have fun making them your own. I’m sure they’ll look great. Happy Labor Day! HUGS.

I am doing this at my kitchen window, only I am using a tension rod — but I will have to spray paint it, cause it’s white, and buy the rings to match, either black or bronze. Did you spray paint your curvy curtain rods, and what paint did you use??? Thanks!
Kelly Rowe says
Hi Vicki! Yay. I’m so glad you’ll be doing this π I bought my rods at Walmart in the black, so I didn’t have to spray paint them… you might find them in your area too! Best of luck.

Hi Kelly. We just had Labor Day, always the first Monday in September. (not Memorial Day).
Memorial Day is always the last Monday in May, to honor our fallen servicemen and women, usually cemetery ceremonies and flag-placings on graves.
Veterans Day is November 11, whatever day of the week it falls on. It honors all the veterans who served in our armed forces. Ceremonies and parades are held to honor these gallant men and women. Combat vets are especially honored.
All 3 of these days are Federal Holidays. People are off work & school, usually making three-day weekends. We need to acknowledge why we’re off, not just a vaca. FYI, and from a member of your blog: a combat veteran’s wife. :-))
Kelly Rowe says
Thanks Vicki. I was aware that is Labor Day…not sure why I typed Memorial Day. I apologize.
