New Addition to my Craft Room | A Sewing Desk

The beginning of 2012 I shared my Shabby Chic Room Makeover.  Man oh man has that room been a blessing!  I’ve had some fun in that craft room this past year creating and blooming in so many different ways!

new desk

While a lot of things have been added to the room since then (including a little clutter, giggle), there was one thing I needed and that was a sewing desk.  I use my sewing machine more for shop orders than anything, but it got to be a bit tiresome having to pull it out and put it away each time.  It had actually found a temporary home on the floor.  I was super excited when someone gave me a desk they didn’t want anymore.  I knew it would be the long awaited addition to my craft room.  I would finally have a sewing desk.  YAY!  Here it is…

The desk was white when I got it but needed a little TLC, plus it needed some new hardware.  I sanded this baby down and gave it a brand new coat of white Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.   I decided to distress the desk a bit too, which you can see a little better in the pictures below.

This desk has been a blessing and was the perfect addition to my craft room!

sewing deskI can’t write about my new sewing desk without mentioning that my sewing machine is super sentimental to me.  It was my grandmothers.  She passed away a few years ago and would be soooo proud to know that I’m sewing these days.  I wished I had taken an interest in learning how to sew when I was younger, as I’m sure she could have taught me so much.  I sure do miss you, grandma!  {hugs}

Thanks so much for stopping by, friends!
I’m off to do some sewing…  care to join me?

I’ll be partying {

    Love your desk! I know how your feel about Grandmas! I miss mine, too! She loved to sew. She made all my Barbie’s clothes when I was younger. 🙂

    Great little desk! I too ‘found’ a white desk and use it for my ‘sewing table’. Unfortunately its in the corner of my bedroom but it’s great to have a space for it vs. pulling it out everytime you need it!

    So cute! I just gained a room in our house, maybe I will make it into a sewing/craft room and move everything up from the basement.

    Love love love your creative space- the details are so soft & feminine. Exactly what I would do if I could dedicate a room again. Love it & YAY for the sewing table. It was so easy to sit down & get creative when I had a space where I could leave my machine out. Miss that.

    It looks perfect on the desk, like they were made for each other. Great job on refinishing the desk!
    I too have an old machine (my Mother-in-law’s) that she handed down to me. It came in it’s own stand, so I don’t have to worry about where to put it. And it has been used as a TV stand for a number of years, I didn’t sew, or have time. I pulled it out last fall, and am having fun learning how to use it again.
    Debbie 🙂

    So sweet, Kelly! My boyfriend in High School (wayyy back in the day 😉 ) well his Grandma Pearl taught me to sew and she gave me an antique sewing machine (I want to say it was a 1940’s Singer but it might have been older. I am so sad I got rid of that because now I really enjoy sewing for craft projects and, while I still would have my newer machine, it would have been such an awesome display and memory in a craft room!
    Hugs,
    Claire
