TGIF! As many of you may know, one of our favorite vacation spots is St. Maarten. The beach, the food — and the refreshing frozen drinks, like the BBC Frozen Drink (aka Bailey’s Banana Colada). Prepare to be addicted.
BBC Frozen Drink
Ever since our first visit to St. Maarten, we’ve been HUGE fans of the Guavaberry Colada. However, you can’t get the Guavaberry liqueur just anywhere, so I don’t think it would be fair to share that recipe.
Last year when we were on the island, we had a drink towards the end of the trip and said, “we have to remember this one.” Guess what? We didn’t. {hee-hee}
Sooo, this summer we tried to remember the ‘other frozen’ drink we had tried. The BBC sounded familiar, so we ordered a couple at lunch one day. SCORE!
Unfortunately, the Guavaberry Colada took the back burner for the remainder of the trip. We were sipping on BBC frozen drinks each day while at the beach.
The hubs watched the beach bartender make them and noted the ingredients in hopes that we could return home and enjoy them on our deck. After a few tweaks, the hubs figured it out and nailed it! Since then, we’ve been enjoying lots of these frozen treats!
Guess what? Today I’m going to share that delicious recipe with you — the delightful, refreshing BBC Frozen Beverage. This Bailey’s Banana Colada is a treat that’s sure to please the tastebuds!
Now it’s time to try your hand at making one! Enjoy.

Oh, I love St. Maarten. Stopped there on a cruise in 1987 and have been back to stay a number of times. I did get the recipe for BBCs from a friendly bartender and enjoyed many homeade ones over the years. The best ones though are always those on a tropical island.
Kelly Rowe says
YAY for St. Maarten! Thanks so much for stopping by, Iris. I couldn’t agree more — the best BBCs are those on a beach in the Caribbean 🙂 Cheers.
Megan Vaughn says
This was my favorite drink on my honeymoon in St. Lucia. Thanks for reminding me to make it myself. It is so delicious.

JoAnne says
When you say 1 oz. Cream of Coconut……what is that? A liquer? I need to make this!!! It tastes yummy in my mind!
Thanks!
Kelly Rowe says
Hi JoAnne! It’s not a liqueur. It usually comes in a can (http://amzn.to/1oBssqo) or squeeze bottle (http://amzn.to/XnHEwi). It’s usually located in the liquor aisle. Hope that helps — and enjoy!

This is why I gain weight in the summer, and have to lose it in the winter. Fruity frozen beverages are awesome!
I’m still going to make one when I get home though. Summer’s NOT over yet.
Glory/ Glorious Treats says
This looks totally amazing! Summer in a glass!
Melody says
I’m making this this weekend (Even though it’s really not quite warm enough)
I’m thinking my kids will be really jealous, and I’m going to have to find a way to make a non-alcoholic version. Maybe substitute milk or ice cream for the liquor…
Thanks for the recipe – I’m sitting of my desk and work, and all I can think about is hitting the liquor store on my way home!!!
Kelly Rowe says
I’m sure you enjoyed this yummy frozen beverage Melody!! I’m glad you gave it a try. 🙂 …and your kids would definately appreciate a non-alocohol version of it. Have a wonderful day! HUGS.

Randy Jenkins says
So is this Wily’s BBC recipe? We just got back Monday …..
Kelly Rowe says
Hi Randy. We just got back from our 8th visit this past Friday. This isn’t Willy’s recipe per se, we watched her make them and came home and kept practicing until it tasted about the same. I can say that ours is much lighter on the rum though (hee-hee). Cheers!
Randy Jenkins says
We just got back Monday the 17th.
It was our 12th or 13th visit. We lose count.
Lee says
Don’t forget a dark rum floater on top
rachel says
Hi when you say ‘pina colada mix, what is that? I wopuld love to recreate this for my husband on our 1 yea wedding anniversary but cant figure that part of the recipe out!
Kelly Rowe says
Hi Rachel. It’s a mix you can buy in the alcohol department of your grocery store. Here you can see some different brands.
April Brown says
I know this may be a long shot, but would Sailor Jerry’s spiced rum taste good in this? That’s the only rum I like.
Kelly Rowe says
Hi April! I’m sure it would work; however, it will altar the taste a bit. If you like the spiced rum flavor, then I’m sure you’ll enjoy it either way! I’d love to know what you think — keep me posted. Cheers!
Cindy MacMillan says
