I was a little late in getting my fall/harvest outdoor decor ready to go this year. I was wanting to do a ‘crate makeover’ first and visit a pumpkin patch (not just the local Walmart).  Took me a little longer than I planned.  Oh well.  Better late than never, right?  However, it will stay out until Black Friday, so it has plenty of time to sit tight and show our harvest spirit {smile}.

When it comes to decorating outdoors (aka, the front porch), I’m a minimalist. There’s always a wreath on the door, but usually fall is the only time I consistently set out a few festive pieces such as a bale of hay, a scarecrow, pumpkins, etc. The past few years I was using an unfinished (and might I say, booooor-ing) crate that I picked up at Michael’s.  Love the crate, but it needed some sprucing up.

So boring, right?  It never even dawned on me to stain it. Then I heard about Thompson’s WaterSeal Easy Stain.  This product really seemed to fit the bill. Easy for the smaller projects and provides protection against the elements.  So super easy to apply too.  All I used was a sponge brush and maybe half of this 8 0z bottle.  Boo-yah!

Pardon the desk that is undergoing a renovation that happens to be my work area…  the life of a crafty, DIY blogger {smile}.  I had the choice of using a Cedar color or a Chestnut color.  I went with the Chestnut.  I only applied one coat and it took maybe 20-30 minutes.  Easy. Breezy.  Here’s a glimpse at the before and after of this simple crate makeover.

I {love} the Chestnut color.  I think the crate turned out great.  Now to make its way out to the front porch.  YAY!

Pumpkins and Scarecrows and Hay Bales — Oh my! {giggle}
It’s perfectly simple and says I {love} fall! What do you think?

I’m thinking there might be a bird house project in the spring!
Wouldn’t that be a perfect project for this stain too?

Thompson’s WaterSeal provided me with complimentary product for review and was used on this project.
