It seems like every year when the seasons start to change and the weather starts to get colder, there’s an urge to change up my home a little bit. Whether it’s lightening things up for summer time, or bringing in those warm, cozy touches for those cold fall and winter months. Today I’m sharing five easy ways to change up the feeling in your home, incorporate the hot fall color trends, and transition through the changing seasons.
Every year Pantone releases it’s Top 10 Fall Colors for Home and Fashion! Have you seen them? Radiant Orchid, Royal Blue, Misted Yellow, Sangria, Cypress and many lovely others! Let’s get to it… Fall Decor Trends using colors while considering the transitioning of the seasons.
Ready? Here we go!
Neutral Pops of Color:
When we think of neutrals, a lot of us think of white or tan–light colors, but think outside of the box. Dark colors are just as neutral and really make those colors POP! Think dark, warm grays, or even black. Mixed with fall tones like Royal Blue or even a bold Sangria, they bring a warm, cozy feeling into the home. In the warmer months, you can add bright colored accents that really pop and brighten up the room.
Bring in Natural, Seasonal Elements:
Look around nature to bring the feeling of the season into your home. Fall leaves, raw wood, pumpkins in the fall…all inexpensive things that softly whisper the sense of the season when you walk into a room. In the warmer months, fresh flowers, fruits, or greenery are great elements to add to a room. You don’t have to buy items to bring on-trend fall color into your home. Fall leaves are a great way to incorporate Misted Yellow and Aurora Red, and notice the color of the Apples? Mother Nature is one trendy gal! {smile}
Pillows and Throws:
Accent pieces like pillows and throws are a great, inexpensive way to change the texture, color and feeling in a room. Buy a few good quality pillow inserts, and then pillow covers can be purchased or made for a few dollars and completely transform the look of your space. When you start with a neutral base in your furniture and paint colors, it’s easy to change out patterns and textures as often as you like. Wools, plaids, and dark warm patterns are great for fall, and, of course, bright floral prints, ikats or bold solids are great for spring and summer time. The same goes for throws. Adding a simple throw to the back of a chair is a small accent that makes a big impact, and warm, chunky throws can be found just about anywhere this time of year.
Interchangeable Art:
Who doesn’t love a good gallery wall? Incorporate things like clipboards, chalkboards, or easy-to-change frames into your gallery wall that make it easy to switch out some of the pieces as the seasons change. There are so many free prints available online or simply use pictures from seasons past that display memories and bring in the feeling of the season (think pumpkin patches, camping trips, etc.). Again, back to looking to nature: wreaths and greens are a great way to add colors like Cyprus to your seasonal wall decor.

Window Treatments:
Nothing transforms the look of a room like blinds, shades, or drapes. As the wise Nate Berkus says, “it’s like jewelry for your windows.” Not only can they set the tone for an entire room, but they can reduce the energy costs in your home by helping to keep your home warmer in the cold months and cooler in the warm months. More money for those other fun seasonal touches, right? {wink} Hunter Douglas from Décorview has lots of amazing style and color options, not to mention, you can get them customized and even automated! You can keep it neutral with a color like Aluminum, or…
…something a little brighter and bolder in the Aurora Red family. Again comes the importance of the neutral base colors: because the other elements in this room are neutral, the shades give it a pop of color, let the room show your personality and personal style, and you can change the other accents to help bring the feeling of the season. Can’t you picture this beautiful color with some deep fall colors like Royal Blue and Misted Yellow? And then some bright citrus colors for the summer time? The ideas are swirling in my head!
Always be sure to make the most of the natural light in your home — you won’t regret it!
Be sure to schedule your free design consultation from Décorview and save on your window projects before December 16th. How about an early Christmas gift? {wink}
