Today, I get to share some highlights of our Colorado Springs adventures. From the moment we arrived, the beauty of Colorado had me hooked. The fresh mountain air, endless blue skies, and breathtaking views made this trip one for the books.
If you’ve ever considered planning a trip to Colorado Springs, let me say — do it. This charming destination has a little something for everyone: hiking trails, historic sites, jaw-dropping scenery, and plenty of cozy spots to slow down and take it all in. In this post, I’m giving you a peek at our adventures to Garden of the Gods, Seven Falls, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Pikes Peak, and Royal Gorge. Each stop brought its own magic, and together, they made for the perfect escape.
Where We Stayed in Colorado Springs
For our trip, we booked an Airbnb called Casita Noir — and it turned out to be the perfect home base for our Colorado Springs adventures. The space was meticulously clean (especially impressive for being pet-friendly), super quaint, and had such a cozy vibe. We especially loved the fenced yard, which made it easy for our dogs to enjoy the outdoors while we relaxed.
Another favorite feature was the private patio with a fire pit. After long days exploring places like Garden of the Gods and Seven Falls, it was the perfect spot to unwind under the Colorado night sky. Comfortable, convenient, and full of charm — Casita Noir really added to the magic of our trip.
Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs
We kicked off our trip at Garden of the Gods, and let me tell you — photos don’t even come close to doing it justice. Towering sandstone rock formations rise out of the earth like sculptures, set against the backdrop of Pikes Peak and the Rocky Mountains. It’s no wonder this park is a National Natural Landmark.
The walking trails are well-kept and easy to navigate, making it great for families, casual strollers, or those (like me) who want to pause every few steps to snap another picture. The contrast of the red rocks against the blue sky was breathtaking. We saw rock climbers scaling the formations, kids exploring along the paths, and visitors from all over the world marveling at the beauty.
One of my favorite moments was just standing still, taking it all in. The peace and quiet, mixed with the sheer majesty of the landscape, felt grounding. It’s the kind of place that makes you stop and remember how small you are in this big, beautiful world.
Exploring Seven Falls, Colorado Springs
Next up was Seven Falls, often called the “Grandest Mile of Scenery in Colorado.” And it lived up to its reputation! Tucked into a 1,250-foot canyon, this series of cascading waterfalls is as powerful as it is beautiful.
To get to the top, you climb a steep set of stairs that run right alongside the falls. I won’t lie — it was a workout! But every step was worth it once we reached the top and looked back down. The view of water rushing through the canyon, surrounded by pine trees and rock walls, was unforgettable.
If climbing isn’t your thing, you can still enjoy the waterfalls from below. At night, the falls are lit up, which adds a whole new level of magic. We didn’t get to stay for the light show, but I’ve heard it’s spectacular.
Seven Falls isn’t just about the waterfall, though. The surrounding area has plenty of trails and overlooks. One moment you’re craning your neck to see the top of the canyon walls, and the next you’re gazing out at sweeping mountain views. It was both humbling and awe-inspiring.
Visiting the Manitou Cliff Dwellings
Our visit to the Manitou Cliff Dwellings was like taking a step back in time. Built into the red sandstone cliffs, these ancient homes were once the dwelling places of the Ancestral Puebloans. Today, they’re preserved and open for exploration.
Walking through the dwellings, touching the stone walls, and ducking through the doorways gave me chills. You can almost feel the history in the air. It’s fascinating to think about the daily lives of the people who once lived there. Like how they cooked, raised families, and built community within the cliffs.
There’s also a museum on-site with artifacts and exhibits that bring even more context to the experience. Learning about the craftsmanship, resilience, and culture of the Puebloan people was a highlight. It gave the trip a layer of depth and reminded me how much history surrounds us if we take the time to notice.
Pikes Peak: America’s Mountain in Colorado
One of the biggest highlights of our trip was reaching the summit of Pikes Peak, famously called “America’s Mountain.” At over 14,000 feet, the views from the top stretch for miles in every direction. Standing there, with the wind in my face and the sky stretching endlessly above, felt like being on top of the world.
There are a few ways to get up to the summit — by car, by cog railway, or if you’re extremely adventurous, by hiking. We opted for the drive, and the journey itself was part of the adventure. The winding road took us through forests, past alpine lakes, and eventually above the tree line, where the landscape becomes rugged and dramatic.
At the top, the view was nothing short of breathtaking. The crisp mountain air and sweeping scenery made every moment unforgettable. There’s even a visitor center where you can warm up, grab a snack (apparently the donuts are famous), and take in the view without braving the wind for too long.
Pikes Peak has a way of reminding you just how vast and beautiful the world is. It was one of those “pinch me” moments I’ll always remember.
Thrilling Views at the Royal Gorge Bridge
Our final big stop was the Royal Gorge, home to one of the highest suspension bridges in the world. Spanning 1,260 feet across and 956 feet above the Arkansas River, the bridge is both thrilling and a little nerve-wracking to cross.
Walking on the bridge, I felt equal parts brave and shaky-kneed, but the view was breathtaking. I could only make it halfway across the bridge before I felt the frantic need to turn around. I have a terrible fear of heights. Steve walked across and back.
The river below winds through the canyon, and the jagged cliffs rise dramatically on either side. It’s the kind of sight that makes your jaw drop.
The Royal Gorge also has other attractions — a gondola ride, zip lines, and an adventure park feel — but for me, just being there was adventure enough. Nevertheless, it was the perfect grand finale to our Colorado Springs adventures.
Why We Loved Our Colorado Springs Adventures
Looking back on our time in Colorado Springs, I can’t help but feel grateful. This trip was the perfect mix of natural beauty, history, relaxation, and adventure. Every stop — from the red rocks of Garden of the Gods to the dizzying heights of the Royal Gorge — left its mark on me.
Travel has a way of refreshing the soul. This trip reminded me to keep exploring, to keep saying “yes” to new experiences, and to find joy in the journey. Whether you’re chasing waterfalls or standing on mountain peaks, Colorado Springs has a way of filling your cup. BONUS: little to no humidity. 🙌🏻
If you’re planning a trip soon, put these stops on your list. And if you’ve already been, I’d love to hear about your favorite moments too. Until the next adventure…
