Today’s the day that I get to finally share our deck makeover!  And the crowds go wild…  I was one of 18 bloggers who participated in The Home Depot Patio Style Challenge.  So, today I get to reveal what I consider to be our Backyard Oasis.  We took our deck from drab to fab.  A deck that needed some major TLC and furniture that was faded from the sun did nothing more than keep us indoors.

However, when you take the time to add a little paint, some new furniture and accessories — you can create a beautiful outdoor space that is not only beautiful, but welcoming too!

The entire project started with the deck itself getting a little attention. It took a few days, but it turned out great.  Be sure to swing by The Home Depots blog for the details on what we used.

I have to say a big thank you to my parents for lending a hand too!  They assembled the furniture and my dad helped the hubby and I with painting the deck.

Here you can see the transformation in a before and after!

St. Louis blogger transforms her deck from drab to fab by creating a beautiful backyard oasis! livelaughrowe.comIt was such a sad looking deck, right?  We truly couldn’t be happier with how this space came together. According to color psychology, blue is a color of peace and order.  It makes me think of the ocean and the yearly vacation we take to St. Maarten,  where we completely veg on the beach.  Ahhh, I wish I was there now (hee-hee).

  • I’m obsessed with the indoor outdoor lanterns and purchased the outdoor battery operated candles too (they’re wax free, so no melting).
  • I loved how the red alstroemeria added an unexpected pop of color.
  • We’ve never had hanging lights on our deck — they create such a fantastic ambiance at night!
  • Below I used a large terra cotta pot holder as a serving tray — why didn’t I think of that sooner?  It’s perfect for the outdoors (and absorbs the liquids off drinks that are sweating).

Love the unconventional use of the terra cotta pot holder as a serving tray too! livelaughrowe.comWe’re not the only ones who are enjoying the comfortable seating either — Parker and Buster have had their fair share of enjoying the great outdoors too! (Parker made an appearance over on the HD blog and Buster is pictured below.  Isn’t he handsome?)

Hi Elizabeth. I bought this basket last year at Target… it was a Nate Berkus product. Hope that helps. Cheers!
