My favorite snacks for road trips are brought to you by goodnessknows®. All opinions are 100% my own.
Soon and very soon, we’ll be hitting the road for New Jersey! It’s our last Christmas in NJ because my parents are retiring in the Fall of 2016 and moving to Missouri. It’s a happy-sad for everyone! Steve and I will be hitting the road with our fur babies, my sister and her fur baby too. Three adults, three dogs and 18 hours — here we come! Are you shaking your head in disbelief? Yep, me too! HA HA!
I would have preferred to fly, but I gave in and agreed to road tripping it so the dogs can come along. We’ll make lots of crazy memories, so why not, right?? The good news is that we do stop half way. We found a GREAT dog friendly hotel in Zainesville, OH where we’ll stop to rest up, stretch our legs and sleep.
I’m sitting here chuckling at how the dogs do in hotels… every time a door opens and closes in the hotel, they bark. It’s quite comical seeing them outside their element. Oh the joys! I bet you’re wondering how we travel with three dogs? A pet car seat, of course! Here is the one we have since we have two dogs.; however, the three of them tend to cram in there. Kristine holds Sydney every so often too!
Anywho, with road trips comes preparation for a long haul and that includes SNACKS! Let’s take a look and see what some of our favorites are!
10+ Snacks for Road Trips
1. Beverages. Water, Soda, Juices or whatever else might float your boat. Water works for everyone! Juices would be great for the kiddos. We don’t always travel with a cooler, so usually we just grab water bottles and buy other beverages when we stop for gas.
2. Nuts. We are BIG almond lovers and keep the Emerald 100 calorie packs around the house, so grabbing them for a road trip is a no-brainer. Plus, it’s a great source of protein {wink}.
3. Vegetables. Another item in need of a cooler, but a healthy choice to bring along. Prep up a few bags of carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, sliced peppers, etc.
4. Fruit. From bananas to apples to those little cuties — these are the perfect snack! Dried fruit is a great alternative too.
5. Cheese Sticks. Need I say more? You can’t go wrong with cheese sticks and they’re perfect for kids of all ages — even the 42 year olds like me!
6. Crackers. Goldfish are at the top of my list here! They are delicious and addictive! Saltines, Wheat Thins, and/or Ritz Crackers are great options too! If you have that cooler, grab some cheese slices too! Don’t tell anyone, but sometimes that’s what I eat for dinner! Cheese and crackers for the win!
7. Yogurt. A nutritious option that is nutritious and is an excellent source of protein and calcium. I like eating my yogurt with pretzels too — especially with black cherry yogurt! Yummy!
8. goodnessknows® snack squares. Goodness knows we all enjoy a good snack square or two! These are perfectly delicious. Packed with yummy ingredients aaaaaand they’re available in three delicious flavors:
-> apple, almond & peanut, dark chocolate
-> cranberry, almond, dark chocolate
-> peach & cherry, almond, dark chocolate
9. Trail Mix. Whether you buy trail mix or whip up some Homemade Trail Mix, it’s a great snack to have on-hand!
10. Pretzels or Chips. The not-so-healthy option, but a great munchy! One big disadvantage to these snacks is they can be a bit on the ‘louder’ side. Haha. So, I tend to forget these every so often due to the “noise” they often create. One of my many quirks!
11. Licorice. Yes, please!! A bag of Twizzlers is always with us for road trips. A sweet snack for that sweet tooth.
12. Slim Jims or Jerky. This one is a favorite for my husband! A manlier snack with some smoked flavor! Have you ever eaten a Slim Jim with a Mozzarella Cheese Stick? Oh my goodness… it is so good!
Of course, with the holidays — taking along some of your baked goods isn’t such bad idea either! We’re saving all of the baking for when we get home — mmm, mmm, mmm! I can’t wait!
While gum isn’t a snack, it is a NECESSITY for any and all road trips! The hubs likes Dentyne Gum in Fire Cinnamon while I love Mentos Gum in Fresh Mint and Extra Sugar Free Gum in Spearmint!
That’s it — what are your favorite snacks for road trips? Dry cereal cups for the kids? Maybe you’re all about the gas stations and drive-thru’s. Let’s chat in the comments! For those of you headed out on road trips too — Drive Safely and Happy Snacking!
