Place Setting Ideas for Fall and/or Thanksgiving
Next week some of us will be hosting Thanksgiving. For some, a formal place setting is what you have in mind — but for others, they’re on the search for some simpler place setting ideas. Guess what? You’re in luck. Today I’m sharing THREE simple fall table settings along with a FREE printable too.

Before sharing any new ideas, I did want to mention one of my favorite table settings in this fall tablescape. There’s also a printable bookmark so that your guests can jot down what they’re thankful for. Take a look when you have a minute.
Fall Place Setting Inspiration
I’m not a formal hostess or a formal entertainer. That’s just not me. Keeping things simple is what I like to do — and include a little extra something for the guests to take with them (if they’d like). Most of the time, these little extra’s also become conversation pieces. However, for me, it’s also adding a personal touch.
If that sounds like something that interests you, keep reading… I hope to inspire you a bit. The keyword for today’s inspiration is simplicity.
One of the first things I like to do when thinking about a placing setting is to inventory my cloth napkins. What color(s) inspires me or seasonally appropriate? Do I have enough for all the guests attending? Should I mix and match? Etc.
Once I have the napkin, I decide on what might add a personal touch to the place setting? A place card, a floral stem, a little treat, etc.
Below I used the same dishes and silverware (from Crate and Barrel and World Market). I’ll talk about each place setting ideas individually. Let me know what you think.
Table Setting Ideas
The Boxwood Pick
If you ever hit the Dollar Spot at Target, you might have seen these boxwood picks. I knew they would be great to have on-hand for place settings, especially with a bow. I had the ribbon on hand and everything paired perfectly with the linen napkins.
Honestly, these could be used year-round. Boxwood stems and linen are perfectly paired and not necessarily a seasonal item.
The Printable Place Card
The navy blue adds a pop of color, don’t you think? I love how the printable is layered using an old book page. Use a thin artist tape (masking tape) or washi tape to attach them to one another.
Seriously, this table setting is so simple and if you have another napkin that works — the cost is pretty much free. I have stacks of old books, so there was no cost there. And you could easily pick one up at a thrift store for .50¢ or maybe a buck.
I’m not hosting Thanksgiving this year, but I might just bring these along to our Thanksgiving festivities. Why not!?! The reminder is so appropriate too. Sometimes we take so much for granted and we need to be reminded to Give Thanks.
These place cards are sized at 3×4″ and can be printed on any cardstock. I used a kraft cardstock because it’s kind of my favorite.

The Sunflower Stem
And last, but certainly not least, we have the sunflower. When I saw the sunflower stems at Hobby Lobby, I thought they would be great to use for a fall or Thanksgiving place setting. I attached it with fabric tape and I adored how it paired so well with the green and cream striped cloth napkins (purchased at TJ Maxx).
Sunflowers always make me smile. They’re such a happy flower… I think they’d make guests smile too.
If you don’t have the fabric ribbon, use any light-colored ribbon and attach with double-sided tape. Tada!
There you have three simple place setting ideas that won’t break the bank and you can certainly pull together in no time at all. One less thing to have to worry about, right? You’re welcome (haha). Have a Happy Thanksgiving, friends.
