Ready to make this cutie-patootie and add it to your jewelry collection?
Last week, I was out shopping and saw this necklace {below} on a mannequin in Maurices.
Later that same day I just happened to see one very similiar in Target.
Super cute! Right? Cost $18.00
I was like, “That’s embroidery floss and jump rings. I could make that.”
Of course, my sister rolled her eyes, but my Mom and I saw potential.
Grab these few supplies…
and we’ll get this knock-off necklace started.
Embroidery floss in your choice of color, jump rings and a yarn needle.
Embroidery Floss $1.20 and Jump Rings $4.99/ bag less 40% =$6.00
Yarn Needle: Previously Owned (but super inexpensive)
MY COST: Approximately $7.20
Alrighty, first things first… measure out your embroidery floss.
I used approximately 10 strands around 5 feet each.
If you want it longer, use longer strands.
Keep in mind that every knot you make — the necklace gets shorter!
Thread your yarn needle and start grabbing those jump rings. I believe I used 40-45 per section. It’s really a personal preference. Where you want to knot and section off the jump rings is up to you as well. I decided on four sections — one section at the bottom center, one on each side and one at the top. At each section, you’re going to tie a knot (a double knot might be necessary depending on the size of your jump rings), thread up your jump rings, then tie another knot. When necklaces are longer and I can slip them over my head, I don’t see the need to have a fancy clasp. However, if you prefer a clasp, go for it {smile}. Your options are unlimited!! I simply threaded up half of my jump rings to one end of my necklace and half of my 40-45 jump rings to the the other side — then tied a single know, allowing the jump rings to slide over the knot.
Got it? You’re all done! Yay. What do you think?
Here’s a pic of my mom wearing hers and me sporting mine.

I totally saw these when I was at Maurices & had the same thought when I saw the price tag … I’m not overly crafty but I knew that was embroidery floss – but didn’t know what the little rings were called. I bought some floss from Wal-Mart recently for 30 cents so it might be even cheaper for me!! Thanks for the ‘tut – I’m off to the craft store! With 3 girls they’ll love these!

When I saw this, my first thought was to imagine the possibilities with all the different colors of embroidery floss. Then I reaqlized thatjump rings come in colors too. They’re not just gold-ish and silver-ish anymore. I wonder what time Hobby Lobby opens…
