Today I’m excited to have a guest blogger {yay!} Shannon is a childhood friend of mine who is now living in Florida. Our families were super close when we lived in Wilkes Barre, PA — that seems like centuries ago. Anywho, she’s been talking about her passion for hula hooping quite a bit lately and I’m of the ‘Curious George’ kind, so I thought my readers might enjoy reading something a little different and fun. So, grab that cup of joe, enjoy the read and leave Shannon some love {smile}.
Let me start by sharing how it all came about! In December 2010 I went to the dentist and Kate was working on my teeth (she is now my very good friend). She asked me what was new and I said “a little bit of this, little bit of that. How bout you?” Kate said “I started hooping!” I was very interested and asked “You play basketball?” LOL. Her answer was no and she started to tell me about hula hooping and the classes available in the area. I went to my first class on December 18, 2010. I instantly fell in love! That day I ordered a hoop & haven’t stopped since!
10 reasons to start and love Hula Hooping:
1. Make New Friends. You meet such wonderful people. I have grown so close to the hoopers from the classes & formed friendships forever.
2. Relaxing. Hooping is very relaxing. For me, when I’m hooping it seems as though all my worries disappear! (At least for the moment).
3. It’s for Everybody. It’s a sport or an art for whoever wants to experience it. Male, female, young, and old. Everybody has fun and anybody can do it!
4. Music. You can hoop to any genre of music. For hoop fitness I prefer up tempo, but for hoop dance I like to express myself to both fast or slower music.
5. Exercise. It’s a great workout. It definitely trims the waistline but once you become more experienced through practice it will also tone your arms, legs, & booty! Basically you will find it to be a total body workout.
6. Endless Creativity. I love making hoops and putting colors and stripes designs together. When doing photo shoots, it gives photographers new creative ideas as well.
7. Indoor/Outdoor Activity. My favorite is outdoors! But when the weather isn’t so nice, you can take it inside and get the same result.
8. Make Money. Teaching hoop fitness/hoop dance classes is an awesome way to extra cash! Best part is it doesn’t even feel like work! 🙂
9. Performances. Once you practice, practice, practice — people ask you to perform! Choreographed hooping is a beautiful way to express yourself!
10. Reminisce. Takes you back to child hood fun. Which always puts a smile on the face!
So… Pick up a hoop and have fun in the circle!

OK. That is the most fun thing EVER. Are they special weighted hoops? Or are they just any old hula hoop?
I want to take a hula hoop class!!

How did I not know you lived in PA?? I grew up in Oley, PA… about 2 hours south of Wilkes Barre! We lived there for 10 years and after I graduated from high school I moved. 🙂 Small friggin’ world!
