House Project: Master Bath Wall

Building a new home is a wonderful experience, but new construction means LOTS of house projects for years to come 🙂  We’ve been in the house a little over two years and there are still so many things to do.  Sigh. The master bath is a work in progress.  We finally painted it a few months ago, but window treatments and walls are still “under construction.”  I love to watch HGTV, primarily I watch re-runs on Saturday mornings.  I had seen a show (or two) where they talked about covering artist canvas with fabric.  We have a LARGE empty wall in our bath, so I thought I might tackle that with this idea.  Our JoAnn fabrics was moving locations, so they had a store wide sale and their fabric was SUPER cheap.  I bought a few different colors/patterns that I thought would work within the color scheme I was going for.  I started there — then bought all of my canvas’s at Michael’s one at a time with 40% off coupons.  I LOVE to SAVE!!  I then decided to add a little design element with an applique.  I found this bird applique and thought it might add a little variation.  I decided to do a solid color on one canvas and use one of the other canvas fabrics for the applique, which would link the various elements of the design. Of course I used the cut out template to ensure that this is what I was looking for. Bingo!!  It worked perfectly, adding the ‘perfect touch’ to the design I was hoping to accomplish.

Voilà! A master piece was made…  Below you can see the four canvas’s hanging on the wall.  Love the colors, the patterns and the applique.  I think they turned out great — thanks to artists canvas, a staple gun, an applique, an iron and the help of my handyman husband.  We finished another one of the many projects on our my list.

How did you get your bird applique to stick to your canvas? Did you have to sew (I'm challenged in that area)?

Ang, I used a product called Steam-A-Seam 2. I use it for my iron on appliques too. I bought it at JoAnn fabrics — no sewing required 🙂 Have fun!!
