Last week I shared about an upcoming Michaels and Hometalk Pinterest party that I’ll be hosting here in St. Louis this coming weekend. If you’re local, I’d love nothing more than to have you stop by and say hello. I thought I would share a project I made using some of the supplies I’ve already purchased to do some more crafting with at the par-tay. I love garland, pennant banners and anything that can add a little charm to a shelf, chalkboard, frame or room! So I decided to make a DIY Chalkboard Pennant Banner using some of the fabulous Recollections supplies. Are you ready to take a peek?
Let’s grab a few supplies for our pennant banner:
Chalkboard Paper (or chalkboard pennants)
Scrapbook Paper
Chalkboard Pen
Hole Punch
Scissors
Twine
Once you have your supplies, we’re ready to do some assembling! I used the Recollections Chalkboard Pennants, so one set of my pennants were ready to go. However, I wanted to layer mine. I planned to use a bigger pennant using some scrapbook paper to place behind my chalkboard pennants. I like the idea of adding a little color and sweet florals into the mix. So, I cut my second set of pennants, using the ones I already had as a guide.
I knew I was going to use our last name, Rowe, so I only needed to cut four out. Once I had finished cutting them out, I moved on to drawing my letters onto the chalkboard pennants using my new Chalkboard Pen. And, might I add, that I am in love with it! I love that I could make a mistake and wipe it away with a damp cloth or paper towel.
Once I completed my chalkboard pennant art, I paired them up with my floral pennants and punched a hole into the scrapbook paper. My chalkboard pennant were pre-punched, so I used them as my guide.
Now we’re ready to string them together for hanging. I used twine; however, you can use bakers twine or yarn too! A little tip… place some tape on the tip of your twine before stringing to make it easier and to prevent too much fraying.
I love that I can change the Rowe to Love (as shown in the Pinterest inspiration flier above). These chalkboard pennants and the chalkboard pen are truly a match made in crafting heaven {wink}.
I added a string of pom pom garland too! This pennant banner and pom pom garland paired together simply make me happy! I’ll be making another one at the big Pinterest party this weekend… remember that there are parties being held at every Michaels location too. Find more information on my Save the Date post.

I’m going to make one for my daughter’s room this weekend! Just one question, Kelly. How well does that Recollections chalkboard pen erase? I’ve heard that other brands of chalkboard pens don’t erase well at all.
Kelly Rowe says
Hi there! I was pleasantly surprised how well it erased with a damp cloth… I made several errors on my banner as I was working on it. I loved that I could wipe it clean and start over 🙂 Have fun making one for your daughter!! Hugs.
