How often do you vacuum?
Better yet, how often do you clean your carpets?

Carpet cleaning can sometimes create a lot of questions and confusion.  Wouldn’t you agree? We all WANT our carpets to be clean — and they may even look like it!  However, we might be surprised to find out how dirty they are.  Guilty as charged!  It wasn’t until last year when I had a chance to visit the local Rug Doctor facility that I realized how many disturbing facts I wasn’t aware of.   Such as, the carpet in your home could be SEVEN times dirtier than a city street! Ahem.  That is gross!

Take a look at these additional facts!  Prepare to gasp {giggle}.  I know I did!

Well, todays the day, friends!  Rent a Rug Doctor and clean like a pro.   Find a convenient rental locations at over 33,000 locations nationwide  You’ll also find it’s at a price that can’t be beat!

I had to laugh when this came thru as I had just read a email from Pet Smart on the same subject with a 2 $20 off coupons towards rentals. I need to shampoo my carpets, well my wonderful son in law needs to, I should say. I think his wife volunteers him. I use to do it myself but now being disabled that’s a on the no no list. I know carpets hold a ton of dirt and mine get the added fun of sand from living at the beach, the sometimes the salt from winter manages to sneak in somehow. Now I was raised to never wear your street shoes in the house, it was forbidden, even our friends had to take them off at the door. My mother was Martha Stewart before that women was even born and could put her to shame. We had pale Salmon wall to wall wool down stairs and the bedroom white wool….gorgeous.

Now about cleaning. I live alone now so a tad less maintenance. I run the vacuum once a week, and I have Bissell (the kind you don’t have to plug in from the ’50’ and I love it) and I race that around everyday. I think you should shampoo every year. But I won’t buy the shampoo with the rental machine, I just tell them I didn’t use the entire bottle with last rental as I only have carpet in one room, a tiny white lie won’t hurt anybody. Then I make my grandmother’s brew….and it’ amazing. Hot water, Tide Laundry Detergent and Regular Ammonia. I don’t have amounts…I just judge it by eyeball but you don’t want it too soapy and it’s ammonia that gets the stains out. I make the brew right in the canister. But make a test brew in a small batch and test in a place that would always be covered by furniture or if you have extra carpet on that, let dry and fluff it up. It no color was removed your good to go. People are always amazed. I rent and the carpet is from 1975, yes horrors they won’t replace it, and it looks new.

These facts make me grin from ear to ear that Costa Rican homes are all tile flooring….99.9% of them, that is!

Ahhhh!! That is so scary Kelly! If I close my eyes does that make it all go away? LOL! I’m so sorry that it has been awhile since I’ve visited with you here but it is wonderful to stop by and catch up…even if I’m now frightened of my carpet! 😉
