Swedish Ginger Cookies are also known as the wish cookie — an old Swedish tradition. Here is how it works. You place a Swedish pepparkakor in the palm of your hand. Then make a wish, using the index finger of your free hand, tap the cookie in the middle. Swedish tradition states that if the pepparkakor breaks into three pieces, your wish will come true.
My mom bought a tin of these at Crate and Barrel and I don’t know how many times I tried this with absolutely no success. They continued to break into four pieces {sigh} — until recently, I finally experienced success and I’m not even sure a wish was on the forefront of my mind, but I was tickled silly that it worked {giggle}. I took a quick pic with my phone to share with you. I love tradition, and who doesn’t like making a wish?!?
