When it comes to electronics, you might think we owned an electronic store {hee-hee}. We have a lot of them around our home from computers to tablets to printers to mp3 players! I only say too many because it is just the hub and I. I guess that’s what happens when you bring a blogger and telecom guy together. So many devices and so little time! Ha. Anywho, we recently got our hands on the new Dell Venue 8 7840 with Intel RealSense Technology, also known as the world’s thinnest tablet. And it is all kinds of fabulous!
Before it arrived, my husband was like a kid the night before Christmas. Asking me every day when it was supposed to be come and when it did arrive, he was at work and wanted to see a picture. It’s kind of cute! He loves techy things, I love shoes… Tomato Tomahto! Sooo, you can imagine the little amount of time I’ve had with this new tablet of ours. Therefore, I’m passing the baton to him today. Without further adieu, the hubs will share his excitement and review with you about his new toy tablet!
Hey there! It’s always exciting to get a new toy, and receiving the Dell Venue 8 was no exception for me. Now said to be the World’s Thinnest Tablet, it’s 8.5″ x 4.88″ in size, 6mm thin and only a little over 0.5 lb.
Digging a little deeper into the geeky side of things, this tablet ships with the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, has 2GB of RAM and a 2.33GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor.
Two things I generally use a tablet for are reading and watching movies. The 8.4 inch screen with its 2560 x 1600 (359 ppi) resolution makes for crisp characters and easy reading especially with PDFs where the lettering can get quite small. The Dell Venue 8 comes with 16GB of storage. After the OS and included software, you are left with about 8GB which is plenty for installing the small number of additional applications that I use. But when it comes to media such as movies, pictures, or music then the 8GB just doesn’t cut it. A very cool feature of the Venue 8 is that it comes with a microSD port that supports up to 512GB. That’s a lot of potential storage space. So if you’re in need of more storage than the 16GB, you don’t have to buy a new tablet or swap files with the cloud!! That is awesome!
The Dell Venue has extremely long battery life too! Here’s an example — I fired up an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man (one of my favorite television shows as a kid). At 640 x 480, the 50 minute video drained the battery by about 7% of its charge. If my math is correct, that is roughly 11 hours of video. Higher resolution movies will, of course, use more power, but impressive still.
The sound that comes out of the built in speakers is quite remarkable for such a small device. I’m not saying that you could use it to run a dance club {smile}, but for some easy listening while your typing up a blog post, it fits the bill nicely.
If you’re a a big fan of capturing moments with the camera on a tablet, other features of the Dell Venue 8 include the ability to change the focus after a photo is taken, the ability to edit the depth of a photo, thereby changing its coloring and the ability to measure an object straight from within a photo. Oh the possibilities!
I couldn’t be happier with this new tablet. Exceptional features! Now back to Kelly…
It’s me again — Kelly! {smile} So, what do you think? Pretty awesome tablet, right? I’ve only been able to steal it away a time or two and it’s all kinds of slick! There’s an Intel Tablet for just about any lifestyle too, so you really need to check them out. Isn’t Mother’s Day and Father’s Day coming up soon? {wink-wink}.
Care to stay in the loop? I’d love to have you!
