Happy Monday! I’m learning how to simplify a DIY with our new Dell Venue — even when trying to decide on master bedroom paint color ideas and how much paint we’ll need!
Soooo, the hubs and I have been talking about making a few ch-ch-ch-changes in our master bedroom. For me , there is a particular corner that is driving me crazy and for him, well, he wants to repaint (and I’m not complaining, hee-hee). We’ve debated whether to paint an accent wall or paint the entire room. In either case, we’ll need to know just how much paint we need to purchase. #duh
This past weekend we played around with our new toy, the Dell Venue 8 Intel Tablet. Remember me talking about it a couple of weeks ago? The World’s Thinnest Tablet.
The Dell has a super cool feature called the Intel RealSense Depth Camera. You can simply snap a photo of a room and grab the dimensions straight from the image itself using your Intel Tablet. Using the dimensions, you can then plan accordingly for your shopping — whether it be paint or furniture. It’s kind of awesome-sauce!
You can imagine what we did next, right? Yep! We took a picture of the wall and used the measuring capabilities to determine the height and width of the wall. A simple calculation later and we got an estimate on the square footage of the wall and we were able to determine how many gallons of paint and primer we would need.
Let me attempt to walk you through this. From the Home Screen, select the Camera icon. Then from the main screen of the camera select the Depth Snapshot option. Hold the Venue as to not obstruct the cameras (no worries, the tablet will tell you if one of the cameras is blocked). To take a snapshot, tap the Depth Snapshot icon or press either the volume up or down button. After a few moments of processing, you photograph will be ready.
Tap the Gallery icon and select your photo. In the top left of the screen you will see a ruler, select it. There are two options to chose from – the line tool and the area tool. We used the line tool to measure the height and width of the wall. To measure, tap the photo at a starting point of the object you want to measure. Next, tap the end point of the object. Adjust the two circles to the edges of the object to get a measurement of its length. If you chose the area tool, just tap the four corners of the object you want to measure and the square footage is calculated for you. Pretty sweet, huh?
So, for example, if we decided to do an accent wall (however, I’m crossing my fingers and toes for the whole room. ha!) — the measurements were 16 feet by 8 feet giving us 128 sq. ft. for the wall. We should easily get two coats out of one gallon of paint!
For additional information and tips on using this feature there is a handy built-in tutorial that you can play right from the tablet.
So, now to figure out (and agree upon) a color. The khaki is just so boring and can make the room feel dark. Our furniture set is pretty dark, so any way we can lighten up the room would be helpful. Here are a few master bedroom paint color ideas…
Now that I’m sitting here and typing this — they all look like shades of khaki! #facepalm. I do like the bleached linen; however, I was really hoping for more of a light cream color. Have any suggestions? Of course we’re still at that forefront of this DIY project, so any and all suggestions are welcome.
Parker is always close by giving his opinion…{giggle}. Isn’t he the cutest?
So, what do you think?
Any of these colors a winner?
Have any fabulous suggestions?
Care to stay in the loop? I’d love to have you!

Oh!!!! I need this type of technology! I love Bleached Linen. Good Luck deciding, I find it hard to narrow down to a particular shade.
Kelly Rowe says
Thanks Gilly! I agree…narrowing down shades can be tough. π Have a great day. xo.

I am looking at pretty much those same colors for my living room, dining room, and family room – – already have an accent wall painted with a really dark brown. So, I love the colors!! I could use an app that tells me how much paint to buy – – I’m of the “You Never Want to Run Out” club, and end up with lots of leftover paint. What I am really fond of, however, is your comforter! It’s beautiful, also new? Where did you find that amazing piece?
Kelly Rowe says
Hi Sally π I’m hoping to re-paint some of our downstairs with a cream color too — I really want to lighten up the space as much as possible. Anywho, thanks so much for your kind words on the comforter… it’s fairly new and from Bed Bath and Beyond (Echo Designβ’ Jaipur Duvet Cover). HUGS!

We’ve done several rooms in Behr Natural Almond- it’s very similar to your choices, but more taupe and less yellow tones. A great neutral backdrop. I have also used Behr Tea Cookie, which is a yellowish ivory- very cheery! However, it gets very buttery in small spaces where it reflects on itself. Colors!! Gahhh! Good luck.

Thanks for your comment Carla! I appreciate your feedback and what you’ve used. Colors can be tough…I’m excited to lighten things up a bit. π Have a wonderful day. xo.
