Light a Candle

Today I don’t have a craft, DIY or a recipe.  Instead, I thought I would share one of my favorite Christmas songs. Since I can remember, I have always loved this song.  “Light A Candle” by Avalon.   While I love candles (probably a little too much), I feel a little more sentimental when I light them at Christmas.  Why is that?  Well, it reminds me of the the friends and family I’ve lost and miss terribly as we celebrate the season.  It makes me think of the loneliness that so many people battle during the holidays, and all those in need — those without proper clothing, housing or food as the colder temperatures roll in.

Light a Candle. A favorite Christmas song with a powerful reminder! www.livelaughrowe.comSince I was a little girl, one of my favorite parts of the Christmas Eve services we attend is lighting candles.  It’s a beautiful sight to see a dark room begin to glow as one candle after another is lit.  How those candles slowly take over the darkness.  We can have that same effect in our words and actions too.

I thought I would share the lyrics of this song with you and hopefully it will touch your heart as it does mine each year.  When in college, Kristine (my sister) and I would gift candles and attach the lyrics to this song to spread the message of love. I hope you’ll be inspired to spread a little extra love and light up the darkness this season — and into the New Year.

“Light A Candle”

Light a candle
For the old man who sits staring
Out a frosty windowpane

Light a candle
For the woman who is lonely
And every Christmas is the same

For the children who need
More than presents can bring

Light a candle, light the dark
Light the world, light a heart or two
Light a candle for me
I’ll light a candle for you

Light a candle
For the homeless and the hungry
A little shelter from the cold

Light a candle
For the broken and forgotten
May the season warm their souls

Can we open our hearts
To shine through the dark?

Chorus
Light a candle, light the dark
Light the world, light a heart or two
Light a candle for me
I’ll light a candle for you

Ooh and in this special time of year
May peace on earth surround us here
And teach us there’s a better way to live

Oh, and with every flame that burns
We must somehow learn
That love’s the greatest gift
That we could ever give

(Chorus, repeats twice)

Light a candle for me
I’ll light a candle for you
(Light a candle for me)
Oh, I’ll light a candle for you

Feel free to purchase a copy on Amazon or iTunes.  Be blessed, friends!

What a beautiful post. I had never heard that song, but will download it today. It’s a reminder of all those who have the greatest need this time of year, but also the realization that Christmas always brings with it the hope for a better world, and the promise that “peace on earth” may someday be a reality.

    Best wishes,
    Vicki
