Did any of you sing that song when you were a child called “Down In My Heart?” Sometimes it’s called “I’ve Got the Joy.” It was written by a Pastor named George Willis Cooke, I believe it was written in the 1800s.   I thought I’d share a little bit about finding joy in my heart today.

(source)

The lyrics go like this:

I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy
Down in my heart
Down in my heart
Down in my heart
I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy
Down in my heart
Down in my heart to stay
And I’m so happy
So very happy
I’ve got the love of Jesus in my heart
And I’m so happy
So very happy
I’ve got the love of Jesus in my heart

To give you a little more perspective, search for the song in Google so you can hear how this cute little song goes.  Singing this song as a child brought me great {joy}.  I still bounce to the beat at the ripe age of 37 when I sing it or hear it to this day.  It’s such a catchy-happy song {smile}.

Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of life, we lose sight of what brings us joy — or what should bring us joy.  We worry about all that is going on around us and find ourselves overwhelmed, flustered, or just too busy to take some time to unwind, laugh or find that little slice of joy!

I’d like to encourage you to take some time to find ‘joy’ in the little things.  Did you save $10 in coupons when buying groceries last week?  Woot! Maybe you got an e-mail from a friend you haven’t heard from in a while?  Yee-haw.

Let’s challenge ourselves to find joy in the everyday things — the little things, the silly things.  I tend to keep things in perspective by saying, “The crisis of today is the joke of tomorrow.”

Enjoy this Joy in my Heart printable.

We sang that song a lot growing up and even had motions to go along with it. Such a great reminder that true joy comes above and isn't conditional on circumstances!

So true Kelly! My husband always says his favorite word in the whole dictionary is Joy. I am so thankful that joy is not circumstantial and that we can have joy even in the hard times because of the grace and hope we have in Jesus – thanks for the reminder :).

Oh!! We used to sing this song a lot in Sunday School and Vacation Bible Schools (a week-long "camp" that happened each summer at various churches in the area). This song has always made me joyful, and even just reading it now, it does too! I am sure it's largely to do with the reminder that Jesus is with me, but there's probably something to do with the up-beat tempo of the music too! Thank you for bringing a smile to my face this morning. πŸ™‚

Great printable. Love it! "I've got the joy" is actually one of the few songs I sing to my baby and help her with the choreography. Heheh. Thanks for sharing, Kelly. Now, I'm off to enter those fab giveaways you've got going on.
