Well, we are truly blessed with friends and family that have surrounded us with a great deal of kind words and prayers. For that, we are truly grateful. Before I get into the nitty-gritty of this post, I want to acknowledge a friend who so graciously offered to be an egg donor. First and foremost, I never expected to receive an e-mail of that extreme generosity nor did I ever feel so blessed to call her friend. Amy, you’ll never know how much that e-mail meant to me. PKs to the end!!! And then there’s my twin sister — I think Kristine would have offered everything and/or anything she could to make this a possibility — egg donor, surrogate mother, etc. I love you so very much and truly appreciated your support and willingness to go to extremes on our behalf. Thank you!
Unfortunately, it’s been a short journey for us — but after much thoughtful consideration, prayer and wise counsel, Steve and I have decided to no longer pursue the invitro fertilization options. As most of you know, we had an unsuccessful egg retrieval last month and the options we were given are very expensive. Whether we pursued a donor egg IVF or went through conventional IVF, we would be looking at an additional investment of $20,000-$30,000. We simply can’t justify that amount of money without a promising outcome. There are too many uncertainties. As I’ve said to many of my friends and family, it’s like gambling on a baby and we aren’t prepared to do that.
Where does that leave us? We’ll be looking into adoption options (our first choice would be a private adoption) and, of course, we will continue to pray for a natural pregnancy. We serve a BIG God and in Him all things are possible. I would be lying if I said I’m not a little discouraged. When you’ve always imagined being a mommy and that dream seems so far off in the distance with uncertainty, you can’t help but feel some sadness. I refuse to let that discouragment get the best of me — so I will remain hopeful and trust the Lord for His perfect will to be carried out. Your continued prayers are coveted…. and, again, THANK YOU!
