With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, we have so many options as to how we can express our love. Hopefully, we’re all expressing our love for our family and friends everyday — but, Valentine’s Day is one of those special days where you can go about it a little more creatively, passionately and excitably {squeal}!   So, how do you go about doing that each year?  Do you buy a box of chocolates? Send a card? Or maybe you just make a phone call to say, “I love you.” I thought I’d share a couple of creative ways to spread some love this Valentine’s Day {or maybe even on your next one}.

:ONE:  Duty Free Coupons

One year for a creative gift I gave my husband a half dozen Duty Free cards.  They could be redeemed whenever he wanted to pass on his daily ‘duties’ or weekly chores (whatever the case may be) — taking the garbage out, cleaning the dishes, recycling, picking up after the dogs, etc.  I’ve attached a sheet that is downloadable for you to use.  These are great for your husband, wife, or kids.  The sky is the limit.  It’s creatively FUN!  p.s. Ladies, my husband {loved} these! You could even design your own.  I personally liked the minimalist approach, plus men aren’t that picky.  Print on a piece of white or colored card-stock paper, cut and gift.  Super easy!

:TWO:  Thumbprint Valentines

I’ve been wanting to do something with thumbprints for awhile now, and it’s all been inspired by this fun book called Ed Emberley’s Great Thumbprint Drawing Book. I’ve had this book for years, I just can’t seem to let it go.  Funny enough, when I Googled books title, all of the covers were completely different.  Made me wonder if mine was some kind of first edition or something.  I don’t know — but what I do know is that it’s a stinking cute book.  Fun for everyone.  {insert cheering crowd here}

This is what my book looks like {kinda makes ya smile, huh}:
Thumbprint BookA simple thumbprint printable Valentine’s Day card.   I’m even providing you with a printable so all you really need to do is provide you or your childs handy dandy thumbprint.  Yay!  There is nothing quite like having one step of the process being simplified a bit for you, right?   Anywho, let’s see what supplies we’ll need:

Supplies for Thumbprint Printable ValentinesScissors
Red Ink Pad
Round Corner Punch (optional)
Cutting Board (also optional if you prefer scissors)
Thin Black Marker
Printer and Card Stock Paper.

All set?  First and foremost, let’s take a look at the printable.  After printing this handy dandy template, we’re all set to go!

.
Below is what you’ll be thumbprinting.  As you can see, each image/character has anywhere from 1-3 thumbprints.  The sky is the limit if you choose to make your cards too — let those creative juices flow.  If you enjoy drawing or doodling, you’ll enjoy this little project. Last but not least — cut your cards out and voila!  Update 01/2013 Please note that the spelling errors below have been corrected in the printable.  My apologies.

    I did this one year for my husband…didn't go over quite well. What program do you use for your Printables. I love making them but I truly just started. I went with picnik because of the affordability but they are closing. Trying to get some ideas of what to go with next. Thanks!!!
