DIY Deer Head Silhouette Decor

I have been dying to add a deer head silhouette to my decor. I thought that adding one (or two) to my Christmas decor this year seemed to be the appropriate time!  I used my Silhouette Cameo, but you could easily create this with an enlarged image and an X-ACTO knife.  This is a fairly simple do-it-yourself, but I’ve included a few steps in pictures for fun {smile}.

 Supplies:
Deer Head Silhouette, Paint, Canvas/Surface of Choice, Paint Roller and Brushes

For the paint colors, I used English Ivy Green for the paint and Buttermilk for the Stencil.  The canvases are 8×8 in size.

I bought the deer head silhouette through the on-line silhouette store and uploaded into my program.  I sized the image to fit my canvas, which was a little smaller than the 8×8 canvas surface itself.  I cut one (using my Silhouette Cameo) and then then flipped the image and cut out another.

Paint Canvas.
Apply Stencil.
Use Paint Roller to Stencil.

Side note:  Don’t be jealous of that handsome newspaper background.  It was hard to come by {giggle}.  These types of projects are a little harder to make the tutorials look pretty.  Why must I be so anal?  {booooo!}

Once they were both painted and stenciled, I sanded down the deer silhouette for an older, worn rustic look.

On the left you can see where I sanded it, and on the right you can see where I rubbed some diluted brown paint over the deer head silhouette to give it a little added character so it wasn’t so bright.  And we’re done.  You could apply a light varnish if you’re looking for a glossier look.  If not, you’re ready to place amongst your lovely decor.

The first picture (see the top of the post) is the English Ivy Green I used; however here is what they would also look like if they were brown… which I also {love} for year round use.  Fabulous-ness!!

Have you started your holiday decorating?
I haven’t!  Black Friday is thee day for me… no exceptions.

Happy Crafting!

.
I’ll be partying {here and here}.

    Super cute! I am working on a little deer silhouette project too. I just need another bottle of spray paint and didn’t want to head out on Black Friday. Hopefully today I’ll get it and finish up. Cute!
