Hey you! I’ve been thinking about all of you a lot this morning… something has been weighing heavy on my heart, so I wanted to post a quick word of encouragement. How many times have you compared yourself to others? I have on several occasions! Yep, guilty as charged! We ask our self questions like: Why can’t I be skinny like her? Why couldn’t I have thick hair like that? Why can’t I be taller? Why can’t I be shorter? We play the game of comparisons in our jobs, our hobbies, and even in our very own families.
Do you know what?
Is that a fabulous quote or what? I {love} that Mr. Theodore Roosevelt! A man of great wisdom!
Being an identical twin, my sister and I fought this battle our entire lives. Not just from one another, but from our peers too! People would say — “Oh, she’s the smart one.” or “She has the fatter face.” How horrible is that? HORRIBLE! Talk about feeling insecure and trying to measure up to something that someone else pointed out, and in all reality — it didn’t matter what they thought! If there’s one thing I continue to learn on a daily basis it’s this: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Guess what? So are YOU!
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psalm 139: 14)
You are uniquely YOU! You are beautiful. You are loved. You are wonderful! I truly hope you know that! Don’t allow the comparison of your looks, your blog, your job, your clothes, your house, etc. to rob you of your JOY!
Do what you do! Be who you are!
EMBRACE JOY.

This is such a great quote that speaks tons of truth. If only this was permanently burned into our brains!
Kelly says
Hi Brenda! Yes, I couldn’t agree more — it’s something we have to be deliberate about — making the comparisons is what seems to come naturally and it’s so unfortunate. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have an incredible week! xo

Sandra @Beneath this Roof, Within these Walls says
How lovely. I am just getting my blog set up, and I have been beating myself up–“I don’t know enough about this stuff, what was I thinking, to even think I could do this, look how pretty everybody else’s blog is, mine is plain, almost ugly, if I wasn’t so fat I could probably do a better blog–“. Don’t ask me what my weight has to do with anything, but I blame everything on it, loll. Anyhow, you are right, being a blogger is not a competition, I am doing it for fun! So, no more comparisons, it is fine, and I shall embrace the joy of it.
Kelly says

I can honestly say that is the one nice thing about being older…….. these comparisons happen less frequently. There is a state of acceptance that goes with middle age, and it sure feels great.
~Bliss the smarter fat faced girl~
Kelly says
I’m approaching ‘older’ so hopefully I’ll see less of this behavior in my world {hee-hee}. Thanks for making me laugh out loud with your signature. HA! Hugs.
Catherine says
Well timed!!! This last few weeks have been a jumble of rush, stress and feeling like I can’t stretch myself enough. Which of course means I’m wondering how every one else can do it and I can’t. Thanks for the reminder – I can do what I can do, and worrying about anyone else is a waste of my precious energy!
Kelly says
Hi Catherine! I’m so happy to hear this was a needed reminder. Yes, don’t waste that precious energy! You are fabulous!! xo
Amanda {at} Royal Daughter Designs says
Comparison is SO hard! I think I have a love-hate relationship with comparison. I love that when we are constructive with comparing, it l(hopefully) leads to goals, and challenges, and growing. But i hate the pressure and the competition.
Great post, Kelly!
