I’m soooo excited to be share another vintage inspired {DIY} tutorial.  If you missed my last vintage inspired tutorial, click {here}?  Some of you might know that I own an Etsy store called House 129.  I just happen to get a number of custom orders.  And do you know what?  I {heart} them!  They push me to think outside the box and try things I might not try.  In January, I got an inquiry for some custom favors for a vintage themed wedding shower.  So, I went to work and after finding inspiration from Elizabeth Kartchner of Dear Lizzy {here}, I came up with these!

Of course, these could simply be vintage-inspired-embellished gift boxes too.  I can think of quite a ways to put these cuties to good use.  Anywho, let’s gather a few supplies and get this party started.

Supplies:  Twine, Fabric, Scrapbook Paper or pages from an old book, Burlap,
Lace, Scissors and/or large whole punch, kraft boxes and hot glue gun.
.
I think this tutorial/project is more about being free-spirited in your creativity.  You can do so many different things, layer your embellishments in a number of different ways.  Being that there are probably hundreds of rolled fabric flower tutorials out there, I didn’t want to bore you with yet another one, so to make these for use as an embellishment, check out these tutorials {here} or {here}.
.
To make the fabric and twine bow ties, you’re going to cut a square of fabric, measuring about 3-1/2 by 2-1/2.  You’ll then pinch the top and the bottom, meeting in the middle (as pictured below), then wrap your twine around the center and glue or knot.
You’ll then want to punch or cut out some circles (approximately 2″ in diameter), cut some burlap into squares (approximately 3″x 3″) and have some ribbon or lace on hand.  I also used some tulle to add a little some-something to mine, but forgot to include it in the pictures.  Boo!  Sorry about that.  However, with all of these embellishments, you’re able to try layering your goodies in different ways, mix and match, trade, swap, have fun and get creative.  The sky is the limit!  Yay!
Once you’ve made your perfect little vintage embellishments, place them on your kraft box with a dot of hot glue — and you’re ready to wow your guests with some of the cutest vintage inspired favors -or- gift a friend with some super cute packaging.  If you’re using them as a favor, fill the box with candy or questions that you might like to have as conversation starters for your guests, etc. Regardless of what you do with them — they’re sweet and vintage.
Here’s to vintage inspired fun!  I’ll be partying {here}.
A little extra partying {here} and {here} too.  Cheers!

These packaging ideas are great – just switched to burlap myself to wrap the pottery jewelry I make and (try to) sell on Etsy. I linked to this project on my blog: http://cottonridgellc.com/2012/09/09/creative-blog-hopping/
