TGIF!!  It’s Friday… Woo-Hoo.  Let’s end the week with a bang, shall we?  Earlier this week, I shared my Fall Home Tour and said I’d be back with a few more details on the Neutral Fall Wreath I had in my dining room vignette.  Guess what?  Today is that day!

Don’t you just love simple projects?  This one started with a vision to build a shutter out of some pallet wood.  With that vision, I also wanted to hang a wreath on it.  Crickets.

Lovely and super simple Neutral Fall Wreath. You have to see what was used to make this -- it's not your typical fabric. More info at livelaughrowe.comThat’s what I had when it came to wreath ideas.  Nothing.  Burlap?  Nah.  Leafy?  Nope.

I wanted something a little different, then it hit me — DROP CLOTH!  I love drop cloth.  The heavy fabric, the neutral color and all the fabulous versatility. #swoon

Lovely and super simple Neutral Fall Wreath. You have to see what was used to make this -- it's not your typical fabric. More info at livelaughrowe.comIt just so happens that I kinda love scrap fabric wreaths too! Remember my Easter Scrap Fabric Wreath?  Well, that’s the technique I decided to put to use on this wreath too.

Supplies for Neutral Fall Wreath. Using these few supplies, you can make a lovely scrap fabric wreath in no time!Supplies:  Wire Wreath (in your size of choice), drop cloth and scissors (or rotary cutter).

You’re going to cut lots and lots of strips from your drop cloth (approximately 6-8″in length and about 1/2″ in width).  Tie them to your wire wreath form and keep tying until you can’t see the wire wreath anymore. So, cue up that DVR and get to it {giggle}.

Before you know it, you’ll have this magnificent Neutral Fall Wreath.  The strips of drop cloth fray perfectly and gave this wreath the added touch it needed to make it even extra fabulous.

Seriously!  Here’s a closer look.  It’s perfection, right?

Maybe you’ll whip a wreath up this weekend?

I was wondering if there is anyway to keep it from being so frayed? This is the first time I have ever worked with drop cloth and even though I know it us supposed to frayed some mine are all stringy. Thanks

I love this. My husband brought me home a drop cloth. He told me there were only 2 types to choose from, a canvas one and the one he brought home (has like a plastic backing which won’t work). Did you use a canvas type? Thanks.

For the neutral fall wreath. How much of the drop cloth did you use? We are making thia as a group of women and I would like to share drop clothes if we can.

Oh boy! That’s a good question, Mindy! Depending on the size of the wreath, the drop cloth will go a long way. I would think you get at-least 2-3 from one drop cloth. I hope that helps — aaand I love that you’re doing this as a group. Have a blast!!

Love this wreath! Question for you….I have seen lots of things made with drop cloth. I finally bought some and it was super stiff even after I washed it. Is it supposed to be like that or am I missing something?

    Thanks in advance

Hi Melissa. I don’t think all drop cloths are made equally (hee-hee). Mine wasn’t that stiff even before a wash. For my wreath, I didn’t wash my drop cloth first. Where did you buy it?

    • Melissa says

      Menards in the paint section.

Mine was from Lowe’s. Maybe try washing again or buying a different one. Sorry to hear about yours being so stiff.

Kelly, I love the wreath and plan to make one to hang on a pallet wall that I am using for a rustic wedding reception. My question is, do you remember what color and brand stain that you used for the wood piece that you hung the wreath on? Thank you for your help.

I LOVE THIS! Just made mine today, $10 for drop cloth (enough to make two wreaths), $3 for 18 inch wire wreath, $5 for flowers, $2 for chalkboard sign. $20 total and super fun to make!!! Wish I could post a pic to show how great it turned out!

Wow I was so excited but I was sick couldn’t get to store so I looked in paint garage and there was a drop cloth I used in my last project with spots of navy blue in spots so I used it anyway oh my goodness it is gorgeous! The few drops of paint add a rich look. I LOVE this idea. Thank you for all your wonderful projects!

What would you suggest if I didn’t want to use drop cloth? A stiff cotton blend? I want to do multi-colors for a fall wreath.
    Thank you in advance!

Hi Gail. Yes, a stiff cotton blend would work. In all honestly, any fabric will work; however, the thinner the fabric, the more you’ll have to use to create a full wreath. I hope that helps. Feel free to send your completed wreath to me or tag me on social media — I’d love to see it! Cheers!
