TGIF!! It’s Friday… Woo-Hoo. Let’s end the week with a bang, shall we? Earlier this week, I shared my Fall Home Tour and said I’d be back with a few more details on the Neutral Fall Wreath I had in my dining room vignette. Guess what? Today is that day!
Neutral Fall Wreath
Don’t you just love simple projects? This one started with a vision to build a shutter out of some pallet wood. With that vision, I also wanted to hang a wreath on it. Crickets.
That’s what I had when it came to wreath ideas. Nothing. Burlap? Nah. Leafy? Nope.
I wanted something a little different, then it hit me — DROP CLOTH! I love drop cloth. The heavy fabric, the neutral color and all the fabulous versatility. #swoon
It just so happens that I kinda love scrap fabric wreaths too! Remember my Easter Scrap Fabric Wreath? Well, that’s the technique I decided to put to use on this wreath too.
Supplies: Wire Wreath (in your size of choice), drop cloth and scissors (or rotary cutter).
You’re going to cut lots and lots of strips from your drop cloth (approximately 6-8″in length and about 1/2″ in width). Tie them to your wire wreath form and keep tying until you can’t see the wire wreath anymore. So, cue up that DVR and get to it {giggle}.
Before you know it, you’ll have this magnificent Neutral Fall Wreath. The strips of drop cloth fray perfectly and gave this wreath the added touch it needed to make it even extra fabulous.
Seriously! Here’s a closer look. It’s perfection, right?
And, just in case you missed my fall home tour — here is the completed fall vignette. I hope you’re feeling inspired, friends.
Maybe you’ll whip a wreath up this weekend?

I absolutely love this idea! I like that this isn’t the typical fall or winter colors so it works for both seasons!
Jenean Crook says
How wide & long should the strips of fabric be?
Kelly Rowe says
Hi Jenean! The original tutorial was referenced — however, mine were @ 7″to 8″ in length and about 1/2″ in width.

gina says
I love this. And something I can do while watching tv ( instead of snacking lol). Can’t wait to make it
gina says
I was wondering if there is anyway to keep it from being so frayed? This is the first time I have ever worked with drop cloth and even though I know it us supposed to frayed some mine are all stringy. Thanks
Heidi says
Love, Love, Love this wreath! Looks just like the Mango Wreath I saw on a site earlier that was selling for $89.00!!!! I love this one!
Cheryl says
I love this. My husband brought me home a drop cloth. He told me there were only 2 types to choose from, a canvas one and the one he brought home (has like a plastic backing which won’t work). Did you use a canvas type? Thanks.
mindy says
For the neutral fall wreath. How much of the drop cloth did you use? We are making thia as a group of women and I would like to share drop clothes if we can.
Kelly Rowe says
Oh boy! That’s a good question, Mindy! Depending on the size of the wreath, the drop cloth will go a long way. I would think you get at-least 2-3 from one drop cloth. I hope that helps — aaand I love that you’re doing this as a group. Have a blast!!
Gail says
Kelly, how long are the strips you cut?
Kelly Rowe says
Hi Gail. The strip were approximately 6-8″in length and about 1/2″ in width. Have fun!
Melissa says
Love this wreath! Question for you….I have seen lots of things made with drop cloth. I finally bought some and it was super stiff even after I washed it. Is it supposed to be like that or am I missing something?
Thanks in advance
Kelly Rowe says
Hi Melissa. I don’t think all drop cloths are made equally (hee-hee). Mine wasn’t that stiff even before a wash. For my wreath, I didn’t wash my drop cloth first. Where did you buy it?
Melissa says
Menards in the paint section.
Kelly says
Mine was from Lowe’s. Maybe try washing again or buying a different one. Sorry to hear about yours being so stiff.
Sabina says
what a gorgeous creation. I can’t wait to try this. Thanks for sharing
Kristin says
What length strips did you cut the drop cloth into?
Sarah says
Found this post and made one this weekend. Thanks!
Madeline says
Is it an all purpose canvas cotton drop cloth? Want to make sure I burly the correct material!
Kelly Rowe says
Yes, I believe so. Whatever canvas drop cloths are sold in paint departments — those are the ones I buy 🙂 Happy creating.
Carmen says
Kelly, I love the wreath and plan to make one to hang on a pallet wall that I am using for a rustic wedding reception. My question is, do you remember what color and brand stain that you used for the wood piece that you hung the wreath on? Thank you for your help.
Britt says
I LOVE THIS! Just made mine today, $10 for drop cloth (enough to make two wreaths), $3 for 18 inch wire wreath, $5 for flowers, $2 for chalkboard sign. $20 total and super fun to make!!! Wish I could post a pic to show how great it turned out!
Kelly Rowe says
Awesome sauce! Feel free to e-mail me a picture kelly(at)livelaughrowe(dot)com, I’d love to see how it turned out. HUGS!
Sherri says
Wow I was so excited but I was sick couldn’t get to store so I looked in paint garage and there was a drop cloth I used in my last project with spots of navy blue in spots so I used it anyway oh my goodness it is gorgeous! The few drops of paint add a rich look. I LOVE this idea. Thank you for all your wonderful projects!
barb says
love the wreath and shutter. since I do not want to cut all those strips, I am using muslin. (I can rip it). =)
thanks…

What beautiful things she dreams of making for us to try to enjoy and have in our lives as well. She is a loving soul who wants to share everything that is simple enough got me to make and I like that!
Gail L McAlister says
What would you suggest if I didn’t want to use drop cloth? A stiff cotton blend? I want to do multi-colors for a fall wreath.
Thank you in advance!
Kelly Rowe says
Hi Gail. Yes, a stiff cotton blend would work. In all honestly, any fabric will work; however, the thinner the fabric, the more you’ll have to use to create a full wreath. I hope that helps. Feel free to send your completed wreath to me or tag me on social media — I’d love to see it! Cheers!
