Tis the Season for giving!  My cousin Jonathan and his wife, Elissa, are missionaries in China.  I follow their blog and not too long ago was introduced to a ministry they work with called Eden Ministry.  It recently occurred to me that I should contact Elissa to see if featuring this ministry here on the blog would be a possibility.  I'm super excited to say that I was given the green light -- and here we are {yay}!!  Elissa has shared from her heart below about the hope this organization brings to women of sexual abuse, her involvement with the ministry and what you can do to support their endeavors.

A Basic Overview:
At Eden we seek to bring hope to women who have been victims of sexual abuse and trafficking. It is estimated that there are 27 million people enslaved around the world today. Of the female victims, approximately 70% are being sexually exploited. In Asia alone, the annual profits generated from the sex industry is 9.7 billion dollars.
Here at Eden, we are taking a stand against this injustice, and doing whatever we can to decrease the statistics in our region of the globe. We believe that the victims of sexual exploitation desperately need to be free and to receive holistic healing addressing the needs of body, soul and spirit. Every person who comes to us is uniquely created by our Father and has her own set of needs. We strive to meet these various physical, emotional and spiritual needs through our medical clinics, shelters and alternative career training programs.
A More Personal Overview:
When I think about making things beautiful, I believe it can happen in so many tangible, and intangible ways. My daily scroll through etsy gives me such appreciation for all the unique things that people can create! And here in China, I’ve also begun to see God’s beauty emerge in the lives of the women I work with in a more intangible way. Let me share a bit about Eden Ministry, the organization who’s work I’ve fallen in love with enough to move to China and work for since 2009. Eden Ministry seeks to bring hope to women trapped in the hopelessness of prostitution. Many women in our shelters have been trafficked, tricked and traded into the ugly and awful world of sexual abuse…but those of us who are committed to serving this ministry are allowed the awesome privilege to see many of them rise up out of those dark places, and become beautiful new creations in Christ, all the while leaving the life of prostitution behind and begin building new lives through designing and selling beautiful jewelry to those around the world. Xia Xia is one beautiful story: Xia Xia thought she had the perfect boyfriend. He invited her to move to the city with him, telling her he had a great job lined up for her. She had dreams of being a good daughter and sending money home to her family in the village, so she went with him. As soon as they arrived, he sold her to traffickers who took her to another city and forced her into prostitution. After two years, she heard about Eden, escaped her owners and is now living in our shelter. God has done wonderful things in her life as she continues to blossom into a beautiful woman of God. One big way we support our non-profit work, is by employing the women in our shelters to make jewelry that we sell in China, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the US. It’s exciting to watch them work peacefully and express their creativity in our jewelry designs.
