Happy August and happy hellos from Rogersville! We are getting a quick break in the heat wave around these parts. Hallelujah. Today’s high is 73. Yes, and amen!
Miscellany:
1. Random fact: Sea otters sometimes hold hands while they sleep so they don’t drift away from one another. A group of resting otters is called a raft—which may be the cutest thing I’ve heard all week. Right? 🦦🦦
2. Earlier this week I had coffee with my parents at a coffee shop in the downtown area of Springfield called Big Momma’s. When I had my hysterectomy what feels like forever ago, a friend brought me one of their Maple Pecan scones when she came to visit during my recovery.
That scone changed my whole world. Haha. Just kidding… sort of.
No, seriously it is so good. I’ve made a few trips for that scone alone. It’s so good. Anywho, I went on a hunt for a recipe… and I may have found it. Stay tuned. 😋
3. Did you see my post from earlier this week? A roundup of Easy Summer Recipes for Warm HOT Days — which seem to be trending for most of us. Haha. Last week we had several days with heat advisories (again). I hope you find something new to try.
4. Steve is currently in Newfoundland with his family on a very meaningful road trip. He was only nine years old when his dad was killed in a plane crash near Battle Harbour. His dad worked for the government and was traveling in a small plane with a coworker and the pilot when it went down. Sadly, no one survived.
This is the ferry that they took to Battle Harbour from Mary’s Harbour.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of his dad’s passing, so Steve’s siblings, mother, and uncle decided to make the journey together and visit the crash site. Believe it or not, the wreckage was never removed and remains there today — and none of them have ever visited the site. It will undoubtedly be an emotional and unforgettable experience for all of them.
Spouses weren’t included in the trip, so I’m holding down the fort here at home with my furbabies.
5. Have you watched Nations Dumbest? It’s a competition where celebrities compete in school-themed challenges. It’s kind of funny… the first couple of episodes I laughed so hard.

7. I learned a new word this week, gezellig. Gezellig is a Dutch word (pronounced as khuh-ZEL-likh) that roughly translates to cozy, warm, and companionable. It describes the comfortable, happy feeling that comes from being in a welcoming space or spending time with people you enjoy.
Isn’t that lovely? I’m all about cozy, warm and a happy feeling.

Isn’t this the truth? Sometimes I feel incredibly organized and on top of everything—until I need the one thing I tucked away in a “safe place.” Ha! Apparently, the safer the place, the less likely I am to remember where it is. Please tell me I’m not alone!
