Question: Where do you find your inspiration? Magazines, Blogs, Stores, Friends?
Well, this project was inspired by my bloggy friend Jaime at Crafty Scrappy Happy! Amongst her decor pics from last fall, I spotted an old frame with old book pages as the artwork. I {loved} it! At first I thought I would keep an eye out for an old frame… but the good Lord knew how long that might take. I decided to visit “the basement” and started rummaging through the mountain of items we’ve been accumulating to donate to Goodwill. I happened to stumble upon this frame (pictured below).
Aaand, my wheels started turning! This frame could be my upcycle — and save me some money! Actually, this was one of my sisters old picture frames, so that meant this frame was zero dollars. Woot! Sooo, I headed out to the garage and within 45 minutes to an hour (due to some drying time), I had a fabulous piece ready for use. Let’s take a look at what I did to create my upcycled frame. Ready?
I started by sanding down some of the finish with a sander.
My goal was to get it looking older, worn down. Messy and Dusty? Yep {smile}.
I also gave a few bangs of the hammer and the claw side to add some character.
I gave a quick coat or two of Old White Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.
Definitely not looking for any form of perfection. She’s looking great already, right?
I then used Graphite in Annie Sloan paint with a little water to add some texture.
Sanded here and there. Added a little more paint. Sanded some more.
To finish this project up, I lined the inside of the frame with pages of an old book.
I used double sided tape to keep them in place. Voila!
And a perfect piece of upcycled decor is born! I {love} it and so does the hubs.
I think it added a perfect touch to my Dining Room.
I’m desperately trying to take the ‘new’ out of our home, slowly but surely.
I’ll be partying {here, here, here and here}.
