This post is a little late — but it’s better late than never, right? Anywho, have you been to Chicago? It’s such a fabulous city! Last month, my hubby and I drove up to Chicago to meet up with his brothers, their spouses and a couple of their friends from Calgary. They all flew in from Canada, so it was a bit of a brotherly reunion. I’m not close with hubby’s family — and I think a part of that is the distance. So, these visits tend to give me a little anxiety and I’m never really myself, which is a terrible thing. How can they ever know me if I’m not myself around them? It’s like a lose-lose. Overall, I’m a fairly confident young lady…but I am extremely timid around his family. Some of them are probably reading this very post, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Just keeping it real. However, I must say that it was a nice visit. There’s always a bump or two in the road when you bring family together, but we overcame {giggle}.
Here are the Rowe boys:
Steve {hubby}, Craig and Brad.
I’ll highlight a few of the things we did.
It was a short weekend visit, but we did seem to keep on the move.
We all met up at Navy Pier, where we were going to take an architectural boat tour of the city.
As you can see, it was foggy, overcast and chilly {wink}. Didn’t scare us away!
We decided on Shoreline Sightseeing. Here is a our tour guide, she was little miss personality.
She made the tour pretty interesting and was a wealth of knowledge!
Can you guess which of these buildings below is called the corn cob building?
There were two and the locals call them that — the corn cob buildings.
I feel like a local now! {giggle} A bonus on this little boat tour was that they sold
hot chocolate….with Bailey’s. I had two. Yep, I sure did. Soooo good!
We got to stop by a couple of local blues bars. One being Buddy Guy’s Legends.
Dropped by Millenium Park, home of ‘The Bean’ on Michigan Ave.
Of course we had a little fun in the mirrors!
And, of course, in between we walked and walked and walked.
We grabbed a cab here and there. We ate. We laughed. Made memories.
I {love} Chicago!! It was a lovely visit and while I’ve been to Chicago several times before, I was able to experience new sights and sounds on this weekend getaway. Craig, Sue, Brad and Tina — thank you for the invitation to join you.
On the way out of town, we did make one stop. IKEA. Need I say more?
Here’s to family, Chicago and IKEA! Cheers.

I love Chicago! I did the architecture boat tour last summer and found it so interesting. Looking forward to heading back in a few weeks. Looks like you had a good time – did the Baileys allow you to be more yourself? It might be the trick! 😉

Hi Brook! Hee-Hee on the Baileys. I’m not sure that it had much of an impact on me, but it did make me feel a little more relaxed (at-least on boat tour). Thanks so much for stopping by! Hugs!!

It’s a 2 1/2 hr drive for me and we go quite a bit! Love it and I always find something new to take pictures of. The architectural tour is a must next time you go and have the time. We are spoiled too because my hubby’s boss has a boat so we tour the city through the river and the views are amazing!!
