Back in February, I shared our {love} story over at Aspire to Inspire with sweet Aimee’s readers. I thought I would go ahead and reposts here — to share with all of you.
Isn’t it completely awesome to think about how each of us found our significant others. For those of you who haven’t, your day is coming {wink}. Love comes when you least expect it, in all shapes and sizes, and is something I can’t imagine not having in my every day life.
Steve and I don’t have the traditional love story of being high school sweethearts or childhood friends, we didn’t even meet in a traditional manner. Steve and I crossed paths on-line. What is now a VERY common way of meeting your spouse was once largely looked upon with great skepticism. Funny enough I was at lunch with a guy friend who mentioned the Christian Cafe to me. I remembered thinking, “why not?” I’m a Pastors Kid who clings tight to her moral values and if I was going to marry — it was going to be to a Christian man.
At the time, I was traveling a great deal and was not in the least bit worried about meeting my future husband. I did, on the other hand, want to date and have fun. Either way, that is very difficult to do on the road. Soooo, I explored this on-line dating thing. It filled many a lonely night in those hotel rooms — looking at profiles, sending messages and hoping someone might catch my eye. I met some real creeps, let me tell you. Then I saw Steve. Actually, he winked at me {virtually}. He had this warmth in his eyes that drew me in… (Steve interjects: “I was sitting at work cleaning out my junk e-mail. I do not even bother scanning through them, but instead hit the delete all option. But this day, I looked through them. An e-mail for Christian Cafe caught my eye, and I signed up for the trial run. Kelly caught my eye and I “winked” at her. The interesting “fate” part of this would be that we were a delete button away from never meeting”). I often forget about that little detail.
These were our profile pics on the Christian Cafe. |
We communicated via e-mail and instant messaging for quite some time in order to get a little better acquainted. Then we finally had our first phone conversation and I remember that as though it happened it yesterday. It was so incredibly nerve wracking. What if he sounds like a nerd? What if there’s all of this awkward silence? I was in California, sitting in my hotel room eating sushi. The phone rings and my hear was racing…. Anywho, as you can see, the call went well {smile}. We eventually met for the very first time on November 26, 2005. He was living 3-1/2 hours away and drove in for our first date and stayed at a local hotel. It was a {12 hour} first date that I don’t think either of us wanted it to end. From that point on, my life changed in ways I never imagined. I fell in {love} for the very first time.
Our very first picture together! We met half way for dinner in Rolla, MO |
We dated for two years (long distance). Steve proposed on November 3, 2007 and we were engaged for a little over a year. We made some fabulous memories and laughed a lot! Those three years went so fast, yet at times seemed like eternity. Remember me mentioning those strong moral values earlier? Well, saving myself for marriage was yet another one of those non-negotiable standards. God truly blessed me with a man who honored and respected that. Some think that is so incredibly crazy, but I’m so glad I stayed true to myself.
Engagement! {squeals of excitement} |
We married at The Brownstone in Patterson, NJ (now seen on several episodes of The Real Housewives of New Jersey) on November 20, 2008. It was the venue I always wanted and such a beautiful day of celebration! I was one of those lucky girls whose Dad got to marry her too — he’s a Pastor! {yay for me}
The day we said, “I Do!” |
Steve and I are complete opposites — I’m a chatterbox that is a control freak who likes to plan ahead. Steve is quieter and ridiculously laid back who likes to fly by the seat of his pants. We’re a PERFECT pair. We truly compliment one another in a way that just works. We’re just like every other couple who has their good and bad days, but whats important is that at the end of the day — we have each other and we are in {love}.

I LOVED reading your story!!! I am the last one of my friends to get married and many times I thought my prince would not come (I swear I should write a book about my time as a single gal), but the Lord was simply allowing us to enjoy life and get ourselves established on our own…..We then met in 2010 via a co-worker of mine and are getting married on 6-2-12! Isn't it great how God designs someone so perfect for each of us and brings them into our lives at just the right time?!
