Valentine’s Day Embroidery Hoop Art

Happy Friday!  Woo Hoo.  We’ve made it through another week, for me it was my first full week of dieting.  I consider Fridays to be more of a ‘cheat’ day…  so I kinda look forward to it for a number of reasons {hee-hee}.

I’m guessing you’ve noticed that Valentine’s Day seems to be a big theme around here lately. Yay for the celebration of love.  I thought today I would share some fun Valentine’s Day Embroidery Hoop Art ideas with you.  I actually have three options to be exact.  They each have a sweetness to them.  Better yet, they can all be adapted with fabrics/colors that fit your decor for use all year round!

I have a MAD love for embroidery hoops…  however, I haven’t had a ton of experience with them.  I have a couple in my work room and I’m now selling them in my shop.  So, if you choose not to make them, swing on over and buy one.  Sometimes I like easy too.  Alrightly, let’s grab a few supplies:

Supplies for Valentine’s Day Embroidery Hoop Wall Art:

4″ embroidery hoops (or hoop size of choice)
Fabric
Red and White Embroidery Floss
Needle
Buttons
Yarn Pom Poms (check out my yarn pom pom tutorial)

Now, if you’re completely new to putting a hoop together, I wanted to share a quick tutorial on how to place the fabric.  It’s incredibly simple.  When I first started crafting with them, I wondered how to finish the backs too.  Oy vey!

Sometimes I think the use of the embroidery hoop can be over thought… however, they can be used to frame some pretty fabric too!  That is so incredibly easy to do and that’s the first one I’m sharing with you.  I bought this super cute floral hearts in red fabric from Sew Deerly Loved.

One:
Cut fabric to fit your hoop.  For the 4″ hoop, I cut a piece of fabric approximately 6″x6″ in size.  I like to line mine with a muslin too, eliminating the ‘see-through’ effect if the fabric is thin.

Two:
Place in your hoop and pull tight.

Three:
Trim the fabric.

Four:
Fold over and glue down. (Another option is to cover the back with felt; however, that’s not my preference.)

The next hoop is using buttons and embroidery floss.  Creating button flowers is super cute and doable for sewers of all ages.  Each of my stems average 5 stitches, then I would add a leaf on occasion.

I always start with the middle button and work from there.   For this I like to stitch everything on  first, then remove from the hoop to add a piece of muslin to hide the stitches.

I don’t think the stitching looks bad by any means, but the perfectionist in me says, “cover it up!”  Rather than seeing what is pictured, the back would look like what is pictured above in steps 3 and 4.

Last but not least, I think this one has a sweet surprise.  You’ll simply cover your hoop with a solid or printed fabric, then add a yarn pom pom with glue (or you can stitch it on as well)!  How sweet it that?

 All three of these embroidery hoops are super easy and super cute!

The only question left to ask is, “What will you create?”
