I love fresh flowers. If you follow me on Instagram, I’m sure you’ve seen them a few times {hee-hee}. Fresh flowers just make me happy — adding a touch of color and life to a space. So, when The Bouqs asked if they could send me some fresh flowers, what do you think I said? Ummm, of course! If I were to be perfectly honest with you, I’ve had some pretty bad experiences with online flowers; however, these flowers were gorgeous. I was giddy. Seriously.
My sister used to work in a florist shop, so I gave her a ring and asked her to come over and help me create a couple of floral arrangements and help me give some practical tips on holiday flower arranging. How fun is that? So, let’s do it!
I want to be clear about something — I never share anything with you that I don’t believe in. So, when I say that The Bouqs flowers arrived beautifully, I’m not stretching the truth. They were absolutely lovely. Okay, here’s the proof in the pudding, this is straight out of the packaging, right after delivery:
Gorgeous, right? It’s been said that if you give the base of the rose a pinch, it should be solid (have substance) – not too soft. Did you know that? My sister taught me that {love that girl}. I received two dozen from The Bouqs Company and we did the ‘pinch’ test. Solid as can be! I simply couldn’t wait to arrange them! I love that they don’t cut any of the flowers until they are ordered, rather than wasting stems like some other companies do! They ship straight from an active volcano or from the sunny surf of California, seriously. And I adore that they practice sustainable, eco-friendly farming too!
Before we get to the fun of arranging, let me also share how affordable these flowers are! The prices range from $40-$70 and includes shipping! The Deluxe Bouq I received costs $50 (plus free shipping). The arrangement we put together would easily cost $70-$80 and I only used half of the bouquets! What? Yep!
Okay, I’ll shut up now…. {hee-hee}. Before we went to work, my sister and I made a quick trip to a local florist shop and picked up a bouquet of Christmas greens and hypericum to use as some additional filler.
Are you starting to get excited? This is going to be a lovely holiday floral arrangement. Let’s get to work! First we need to fill the vase with water — and add a little food. Then we started by placing some of the Christmas greenery into the vase around the edges.
As you’re arranging, you’ll want to trim the roses using floral sheers and snipping the end of each stem at an angle.
And remove any leaves that will fall below the water line. This will allow for longer vase life as the leaves will begin to rot if they fall below the water line.
When you start to add the flowers and arrange, you’ll want to start with a center flower and work around it. Trimming your stems to various heights, etc.
You’ll just continue to add your flowers until you feel it looks evenly distributed. The final step will be adding any additional filler, which for me was the hypericum, a form of berry! That’s it!
I used thirteen roses in that arrangement, so I decided to make another one using the remainder of the roses. I pulled out one of my Southern Living vases that I bought years ago — and came with a flower frog! Of course you could always use masking tape to create individual spots as well. Flower frogs are genious!
Here we simply arranged by placing flowers and greenery in different spots and rearranging as necessary. It’s a much easier way to to create a beautiful arrangement. Here you can see both of our arrangements side by side.
Happy holiday arranging!
