Learn how to make Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs with this foolproof step-by-step method. Perfectly cooked eggs in minutes — great for meal prep and everyday recipes.
Arrange the eggs in a single layer in the bottom of the Instant Pot. Do not stack them.
Add 1 cup of water to the pot. The water should reach about halfway up the eggs.
Secure the lid and set the Instant Pot to Manual or High Pressure for 5 minutes. (It will take about 5 minutes to come to pressure before the cooking time begins.)
When the cooking cycle ends, allow a natural pressure release for 5 minutes. Then carefully perform a quick release.
Transfer the eggs to a bowl filled with ice and cold water.
Let the eggs chill in the ice bath for 10 minutes before peeling or serving.
Notes
Use a 6-quart Instant Pot for best results. Adjust the number of eggs depending on the size of your pressure cooker.
The water does not need to fully cover the eggs. It only needs to reach about halfway up their sides.
Transfer the eggs to an ice bath immediately after cooking. This helps stop the cooking process and makes peeling easier.
For easier peeling, you can add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the cooking water.
Very fresh or farm fresh eggs may still be difficult to peel, even with these techniques.
Although the cook time is only 5 minutes, allow extra time for the pot to pressurize and release pressure.
