Hi! I’m so sorry for the delayed response—and I’m sorry the dough gave you trouble. I appreciate you letting me know.

After looking into it, I believe the issue may be the size of today’s cake-mix boxes rather than anything you did wrong. Older cake mixes were generally around 18.25 ounces, while the Duncan Hines Strawberry Supreme mix currently contains 15.25 ounces. That means there is approximately 3 ounces less dry mix in the recipe, which could definitely make the dough much softer and stickier.

I recommend refrigerating it for 30–60 minutes. Then use a cookie scoop to drop portions directly into the sugar. Once they are coated, they should be easier to shape. If the dough is still too soft, add all-purpose flour one tablespoon at a time until it is firm enough to scoop.

I’m going to add a note to the recipe and plan to retest it with the cake mixes currently available. Thank you again for bringing this to my attention!

These cookies look yummy. I tried to make them, checking and double checking the ingredient. The dough was so soft, there was no way that I could shape into balls. The only thing that may have caused this was the brand of cake mix. You don’t mention a specific brand. I used Duncan Hines Perfectly Moist Strawberry Supreme. Any suggestions? I commented a couple of days ago, but don’t see it published, so I’m trying again? I hope that you will reply? Thank you.

I just mixed up your cookie dough. The dough is so sticky, there is no way that I can put any in my hand to roll. I doubled checked my measurements and they are all exactly as you stated. The only thing that I can think of, is the cake mix that I used. It is DUNCAN HINES PERFECTLY MOIST STRABERRY SUPREME. Your cookies look so good, I am really disappointed that mine didn’t turn out!

Wow! Just made these. They made my home smell like heaven. The pink color is perfect; not too bright, not dull. It’s going to be hard not to eat all of them tonight! 💕 Will try this with funfetti cake mix next. Easy recipe that brought my kitchen joy.
